Had problems with my connection again last night. Speedtest would take long to open, but the speeds were fine. Changed to Google's DNS Servers and all was working fine. :erm:

For me it's been a struggle to get Vodacom fibre installed.

It's the sole provider of fibre for our complex. I filled in and submitted my application form in December last year. Tomorrow it'll be March already. First I had to keep phoning them to ask when the installation will happen and they kept escalating it.

So last week I finally got a call and the installation was scheduled for yesterday morning at 9am.

I took time off work and waited and waited and nobody came. So I phoned support and they couldn't tell me who was doing the installation. They will escalate.

I contacted them on Facebook to see if I can get some results. Alas, the only thing I got via email is that I must phone 082 1904.

ARGH!

They wasted my time. They keep on wasting my time. I feel like letting them know that they can just **** off.

I'm currently with BitCo wireless. With BitCo if something goes wrong then they fix it super quickly. Their support is outstanding. With Vodacom it's a hassle. I can just imagine that I finally get fibre installed and it stops working. Will I then have to wait months to get it fixed?

But for now I don't even know why they didn't come install. Nobody can tell me. I don't know when they will be installing. Nobody can tell me that either.

I'm having the same dns issues, however not sure how I'm suppose to change the dns settings since I don't have access to the router :(

You basically have 3 options:

1. Follow this thread to start using your own router. Best option of the 3
2. Add a 2nd router like a mikrotik or edgerouter-x, or a router that has a WAN port, but then you are going to double NAT.
3. Change the DNS setting on each device to your preferred DNS Server.

12 months is nothing - is the norm, we had to sign a 24 month contract for our wireless link - 2 years goes by really fast....

I'd like to go with option #3

How exactly do I go about doing that for normal internet browsing and stuff :D

It would depend from device to device and posting all of them here, would make for a long post. :D

Basically, where you would change the IP address for your device, you would be able to change the DNS there as well. Pic as example.

It's a pleasure. Yes, day and night difference and that is why I set out to changing the router... I wasn't in the mood to change all the devices' DNS settings. :D

And, are you pleased? What package did you take?

I am a bit disappointed in my Twitch Bandwidth Test. I am not a streamer, but one would have thought that you would be able to at least with a 100/50mbps connection. :(

Yes, one can use restream.io, but it's a principle thing for me. :p

The problem with twitch is NOT with the fibre providers. I have 100/100 unshaped uncapped data and I know this because did 6tb 1 month of downloading and uploading and still get full speed 24/

Best internet I have ever owned but I cant even get 2Mbps upload to twitch servers. There is only 1 server that works for South Africa and that is the italy server. Any other server will not work.

With restream all eu servers work fine and even east US server works fine. That pretty much tells you it's not the fibre provider.

Fair enough, but international speeds are still not up to scratch:

Well if it's overall then I guess yes you could complain but thought it was only twitch giving you issues.

Twitch gives me issues but watching is okay just streaming to twitch is a problem. Rest including international traffic is fine.

anyone knows when you book your fibre appointment online, do the guys really show up cause all I got is an SMS/email saying my fibre installation is tomorrow.

Phoned the call centre, they sent an email to the scheduling department to confirm cause they don't have a phone number that you can call, what an epic fail.
