Vodacom increasing prices

Thought they wern't allowed to change the price until the contract renews.

When Telkom prices increased I still paid the same amount for my adsl/line, that should be one of the benefits of a contract.

2015 - Where Telkom is the good guy. 2005-me would not believe such a statement :p

Where in Vodacom's T&C's does it allow them to do this.
I signed a contract based on the advertised price. How is this legal

How are they allowed to change the price of existing contracts? Is there any limit to price changes on existing contracts? Do they have to provide any justification to those affected? Seems rather unfair that they could lure customers with a price one day and then increase it the next.

Not sure if this is the correct extract from the T&C's. But it reads as follows:

THE CHARGES LEVIED BY VODACOM (PTY) LTD MAY VARY FROM TIME TO TIME AND THE CUSTOMER SHALL BE BOUND TO PAY SUCH VARIED CHARGES WITH EFFECT FROM THE DATE OF PUBLICATION THEREOF BY VODACOM (PTY) LTD. THE CHARGES LEVIED BY VODACOM IN RESPECT OF ANY TELECOMMUNICATIONS SERVICES SHALL NOT EXCEED THE PRICE PLAN PUBLISHED BY THE vODACOM FROM TIME TO TIME. THE CHARGES LEVIED BY VODACOM IN RESPECT OF ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICES OR IN RESPECT OF ANY CELLULAR PHONE OR OTHER EQUIPMENT PURCHASED BY THE ....... ETC ETC.

Contracts are only to lock the customer in for a specific period, not the companies. That's why I'm on prepaid.

In the words of the wise JayZ: "I got 99 problems, but Vodakak ain't one of them"

Vodacom doesnt need to do this, it is simply greed on their part. There are articles about them increasing data revenue but decide to increase contract tariffs wtf? Take a look at their balance sheet and you will realise they arent struggling. I think that cellc had to increase their prices to some extent, cellc isnt making enough to survive and their shareholders arent funding that mess anymore

So in other words they can double the price if they wanted to and force people to pay it.

What the actual fukk?!!

I've never had a price increase during a contract, didn't even know they can do this!

Screw you Vodacom!!!

I have seen this happen many many years ago. I just started my first job in a Vodashop. Think it was when the rand nose dived. Cant remember the details, but with that increase they also actually increased the per minute tariffs also iirc

Technically, yes it would appear that way, but of course they would never do something that drastic. I suppose this is to protect them from dramatic economic changes, something similar for example that happened in Zim.

How does the rand change affect Vodacom?

I hope so and it seems with these price increases the s6 will be quite pricy, probably near R600+.

In this day an age for the cost for the cost of voice and data to go up, its ridiculous. Prices should be going down.

I'm 4 months into a 24 month contract.

This is very unfair.

I personally would have liked to see the existing people that is already in a contract keep their rates and when they upgrade the new rates kick in. Problem with that is on the back end. Tariffs work on tariff codes on our system, and those codes have got pricing attached, so you increase the trariff code, you increase everyone on that tariff. Not sure how this can be worked around in terms of IT etc. That is just how far my knowledge goes in terms of my daily working with it.
