What is wrong with vodacoms network???

I am in Alberton in the south of Johannesburg and am using a laptop with XP home.

Over the past, I don't know, two months, my connection has been getting progressively worse with frequent hangings and disconnections. I have talked to the tech people at Vodacom but all I get is that my computer settings are at fault and have gone through settings checks over and over and over again. I was using the E220 usb modem and even went as far as purchasing a new E272 modem.

Since I have the new modem, my disconnections seem to have come to an end but my connection is close on being the worse it has ever been. The modem connects with no problem but that's the only thing that happens with no problem. The entire time I am connected, I am spending 75% of the time waiting while the line hangs or refreshing pages that have timed out.

I know that the only solution is to contact the tech guys again but seriously, I am tired of being told that my settings are at fault or my modem is at fault. I don't understand why this is happening suddenly because I always had a really excellent signal and fast speeds.

Come on vodacom, sort your network out!

Network error message and frequent disconnects are becoming really frequent this past 4 weeks in Greenpoint- or as I can see here across the whole network.
Maybe this has something to do with people dropping ADSL and vodacom is oversubscribed:confused:

Yes, I am also getting these error messages - all the time. I am getting really fed up with Vodacom. And to make matters worse I just got another spam phone call from them and that after I told them so many times NOT to spam me.

This was (obviously is) a known error and I was under the impression the fix went in already.

I've asked for feedback as to when it will be sorted.

Should only be in Cpt.

Any news on some of the other fixes they were working on?

Apparently Cape Town had an "upgrade/overhaul" last night. I was able to connect, but unable to ping or resolve any DNS queries again. Still getting those "Network Error (tcp_error)" messages from the proxy from time to time. About 10 days ago I was getting EDGE speeds from everywhere, except Vodacom's speed test site, which gave me about 1100kbps (but didn't complete upload test).

As usual; N1 City, PPDB, 'internet' APN.

Mmm, yes I've noticed that slowly but surely since about March, the hsdpa/3g service has gotten progressively worse for reasons unknown to me. for me it used to be pretty reliable, but now...it just doesnt seem to be the case. i'm past the point of even phoning to report it, its just too much effort having to explain anymore or even just telling customer support that NO its not my modem NO its not my settings. *sigh*.... guess hoping for better days is not the answer but what else can one do?

and yes V3G, i'm less than 2km from your house. one would expect that to make a difference much like being an important member of parliament exempted you from eskom's load shedding, but clearly that's not the case. the whole situation is just sad. but i gave up. if it works yay, if not well so be it, generally works eventually after some significant amount of time passed. lol

oh well. it's slow again tonight btw.

Let's chat about it Thursday night. I'll get some of the local radio guys there so you can directly talk to them as well.

wow whats new?

WOW nothing has changed at all..... i have been on Virgin for the past two weeks....... And i must say there network has become alot more stable then Vodacoms.... You guys i stopped complaining and just shut up now, pay them for a service i don't use (because i hardly works) and use Virgin..... Was the best solution. Now if any one asks about my 3g modem... i tell them beware of Vodacom. My boss stopped us from signing up Vodacom 3G Customers because we have so many complaints about it in our area. We now signup Virgin, Cell C & MTN 3G contracts Only ;) And i use to sign up and do upgardes of +- 20 Customers a week on Vodacom now they use the others networks Sorry Vodacom. (thats alot of people per week for a small town)

The more we threaten to change, the more things stay the same

(Sorry to murder a famous quote)

I wrote in a separate thread ( Vodacom 3G and calls, beyond repair?) about the problems in the Fourways area and how the VC team pitched in. Sad to say that things have regressed again. Download speeds have stayed good, but upload is hopeless or non-existent.

Download Speed: 1824 kbps (228 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 26 kbps (3.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

The nett result is that 3G is useless at this level, as browser and email activity stops.

Is there anybody else in the area with the same issues, or is this a much wider problem?

V3G, the technicians were apparently working on the Chartwell tower recently. Is there any way we can find out what they have done or are planning to do about this?

This has gone on for weeks now, and has gone way beyond being an ordinary service interruption (if there is such a thing as "ordinary").

My understanding is that the techies were at your house in the last 2 days (or so) and got very good throughput, both up and down. did they ever test with you, in your place?

Won't you PM me your contact details? I'll call you to discuss. This anonymous forum cr@p is driving me dilly trying to remember who is who :)

As it happens I'm busy doing tests and disconnect at 22:00...so I did not see anything.

Yup I had throughput issues from 21:30 last night. Can connect, but can't ping or access anything.

Same here. HSPDA has been very erratic lately. Periods of no throughput for up to an hour. Ridiculous latency spikes. I'm starting to get really peeved off.

Since yesterday, HSDPA is dead. Only connection I can make is GPRS, which is a nightmare when shared between 6 users

Anyone else experiencing problems on the East Rand (JHB)?

Best Broadband for Your Rand - REALLY???

PAROW (Work) / BRACKENFELL (Home) - PPDB - internet APN

Hi All

Today has been one of Vodacom 3G's WORST DAYS to date for me.
Since 09h00 this morning I've been disconnecting almost every 5 min.

I give up on this poor excuse of a broadband service they are trying to provide us.

So whats the big deal about Vodacom's Broaband??

Here's some snippets from the www.vodacom.co.za website:

Vodacom's Mobile Broadband:

Its "The best broadband for your Rand" including a range of devices,
easy installation, a range of data usage option, no ISP subscription required and free email - true value for money.

Offers you choice with the most appropriate / preferred broadband technology for you.

AND INCLUDES FREE(QUENT) disconnects.

Fulfills all your broadband requirements you don't need to go anywhere else. You can have broadband the way you want it - with a wide range of tariffs, payment mechanisms, technologies, and devices.

The obviously forgot to mention these features:
- NOT BEING ABLE TO CONNECT EVEN THOUGH 3G SIGNAL IS STRONG,
- ABLE TO CONNECT BUT NO BROWSING
- FREQUENT TIMEOUTS
- CAN'T ROLL OVER DATABUNDLES TO THE FOLLOWING MONTH
- Oh and did I mention INCLUDES FREE(QUENT) disconnects.

Don't get me wrong, i do get the ODD day where everything seems to be working for hours without any issues, but i can count those days on my 2 hands.

SO I WOULD CONCLUDE BY SAYING VODACOM OFFERS THE BEST BROADBAND FOR YOUR RAND FOR SHORT PERIODS EVERY DAY...

So thank you very much for a VERY reliable UNRELIABLE SERVICE.

For those who are wondering why I'm so mad, well i've been experiencing this for months now and it doesnt look like it's getting any better. So please don't judge me.

To think i've been trying to convince all my friends to ditch their current ISP for Vodacom's 3G service for the last year or so. DAMN!!!!!
