Been consistent here in Norwood but must say the evenings are slower than usual where a couple of months ago it was the day time that was slower than evening.... The games Voda plays.... ??...

sigh....

A gaming APN, ill sell my left kidney for that IF there is reliability. I dont want 10mb down and 2mb up i want a stable, reliable connection. Even though its wireless there has been days where its shown that it can be 100% perfect. All i want is to get on play some poker, play some Eve online and then go to bed. Man the other day i lost it right on a crucial hand this connection goes bi-polar and ended up costing me alot and i doubt VC is into offering paybacks of cash lost.

Connectivity seem so be much more stable since yesterday.

Last night was heaven ... was connected from 20h00 till 01h00 with NO DISCONNECTS at all .... 1 or 2 timeouts and speeds averaging 1800kb/s DL and 340 UL

I'm impressed

Just hope it can be consistently reliable ...

This morning, so far so good - but im expecting some disconnects due to bad reception in our office.

How are the rest of yall doing?

Last night was quite bad for me, when browsing websites often the images would stall and I would have to refresh the page. Then I'd get a message from Vodacom's proxy that it was unable to resolve the web server's name, although I was able to resolve the name using the Vodacom DNS servers I was assigned. Their proxy must use a different DNS server. It was like this from about 21:00 til after midnight.

In Durban North with a PPDB using whatever the default APN is with a E220 USB modem. International sites are SLOOOOW. Just used the Neotel speedtest and got +- 750 kb/s and 290 kb/s up. Speedtest.net gives me 300 kb/s down and 139 kb/s up. So why is browsing so slow?? Youtube videos don't load and Gmail takes forever?

Been downloading my email for the last 20 minutes, getting about 90kbps down.
Connected to MyBB, getting 114kbps.
I have -75dBm 3G signal and according to the modem I'm currently on HSDPA.

I cannot connect to www.turbine.com or any associated site, neither can I connect to www.ddo-europe.com.
Looks like Vodacom's DNS servers are stuffed:
>nslookup www.turbine.com
*** Can't find server name for address 196.207.40.167: Server failed
*** Can't find server name for address 196.207.40.165: Server failed
*** Default servers are not available
Server: UnKnown
Address: 196.207.40.167

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.

*** Request to UnKnown timed-out
OpenDNS is able to resolve www.turbine.com just fine:
>nslookup www.turbine.com 208.67.222.222
Server: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: wtbigip-public.turbine.com
Address: 206.16.13.71
Aliases: www.turbine.com

My Vodacom connection has been crap here the last few days and also crap on and off since I got connected 3 months ago.

My view is that internet service providers in SA try to save money by spending the bare minimum to actually giving us what we pay for. They spread the crapload around the country so that people will still have little bits of decent connect at times to prevent mass complaints and cancellation of contracts. Just think of how many thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands, they must be saving by purchasing less bulk bandwidth and when there is problems due to congestion they say it was because of the malfunction of some server or give some other excuse.

Whatever it was, it seems to have passed for me. Everything seemed normal last night. Will see again tonight.

Internet apn was unresponsive, so swithced to internetvpn. Below some tests on internetvpn:

C:\Users\???>ping www.google.co.za -t

Pinging www.l.google.com [74.125.39.104] with 32 bytes of data:
...
Ping statistics for 74.125.39.104:
Packets: Sent = 49, Received = 40, Lost = 9 (18% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 307ms, Maximum = 1825ms, Average = 659ms

speed.vodacom.co.za
Download Speed: 580 kbps (72.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 96 kbps (12 KB/sec transfer rate)

Looks like some issues in Durban - on the speedtest.net site I appear to be in Johannesburg.
