Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

I've been having intermittent DNS problems yesterday and today, I'll get an error in my browser that the server could not be found, but if I refresh the page it loads fine.
I think it might have something to do with the connection being idle for a few minutes.
After not having these for these past few days, they've been rather bad this morning.

I repeatedly ran nslookup and got varying results:
>nslookup mybroadband.co.za

timeout was 2 seconds.

ag nee man... keep these grems there by you guys in the Cape... I've been having this for a few days now, in Pretoria, even with great signal.... almost like a few weeks ago when MTN seemed to be tripping.

unless.... its now spread from here to u guys :p

This must be my most frustrating day on Vodacom's HSDPA network.

Frequent disconnects, multiple DNS errors, VMC lite going in endless loops when you try to disconnect to try again, plug modem out, plug modem in, extremely s.....l......o.........w speeds.

Just posting this message took almost 10 minutes.

I give up.

Just please don't touch Randpark Ridge and surrounds ; we've had this for 5 days ;)

Could be the same problem we had here.

Try connecting on GPRS, when our connection went at the start of the week I could use GPRS.

For weeks I had nothing to complain about! Then I was stupid enough to say "I am so happy...". Since last night (Saturday) not even GPRS is working!
We're doing a bit better now thank you very much. Seems like were taking turns.

Besides the usual disconnects that occur every Sunday, I'm getting the following speeds

Are you on the latest firmware?

There was a known problem with the E272 causing sporadic very slow uplink speeds.

Using 9.3.0.8940

Connection has been stable of late with excellent speeds, except for Sundays.

That's the version of your VMC dashboard, i.e. the software you use to connect to the network.

I was rather referring to the 'firmware'. This is the software that runs on the modem. Current version is 11.311 and can be found here:

http://www.vodacom4me.co.za/vodacom...awei E272/E272Update_11.311.04.01.00.B402.exe.

There is a known bug in the (UPA) chipset that causes very low uplink speeds (typically around 26kb/s). It happens quite infrequently and typically you need to disconnect and reconnect to resolve it.

Thank you

Never too old to learn....
