Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Never too old to learn....

Speeds after the update:

Download Speed: 3741 kbps (467.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1131 kbps (141.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

Not too shabby for a 3600/1400 profile. :)

Whenever I see these kinds of speed I still can't believe that not so long ago I thought I was the cats' whiskers being the proud owner of a 64Kb/s Diginet link. And it only cost R7000 per month!

3G connection

Limpopo, Burgersfort
Since this morning my broadband connection refused to connect. Problem? My sim is not activated! Huh! been using it for two years!!!! So I phone Vodacom helpdesk. The guy tells me that my simcard might be damaged. To test it he says: "take it out the modem insert it into your phone and see if you get the same error message." I did exactly that and went online - 3G working!
Nope the simcard is not damaged.
Back to the laptop and modem ..
All of a sudden 3G and the simcard working!
Wonder why that is ... ?
Why contract customers dont get a manual is beyond me...

Occasionally my modem doesn't pick up a network signal, and if I take the sim out and put it back in works fine.

Hi there,

I've got an E272 and I'm in Northcliff, Johannesburg.

For the past 3 days the connectivity has been terrible, very low speeds, extremely high latency and frequent disconnects. This is the first time i have had such problems and it just seems to be getting worse.

Please could someone advise what the problem is

Thanks

The problem is that you have terrible connectivity, very low speeds, extremely high latency and frequent disconnects. ;)

As to what's causing it, could be a number of things. Have you checked with 155?

I suggest to make sure you have the latest firmware and software.test it again and if not then log a call through 155 for network connectivity.

Actually, same problem here in Nelspruit as BioWolfZA.

EXTREMELY slow speeds, Latency like i havent seen since using Sentech, disconnects like mad.

Trust me, everything on my side is fine.

good to know its not only me :)

for the past few months i have been able to play call of duty 4 with a stable ping of 90ms. Past few days i cant even connect to the servers and if i actually can my ping is 999 and i cant play.

I haven't changed anything on my side so it has to be the network.

I just installed the Novatel MC950D on my notebook, and I get the following speeds in Centurion:

Test 1:
Download Speed: 1598 kbps (199.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 10 kbps (1.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

Test 2:
Download Speed: 1294 kbps (161.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 22 kbps (2.8 KB/sec transfer rate)

Those upload speeds are really crap ... E220 outperforms like you can't believe. Is there a problem on the Vodacom network?

Extremely slow connection

Anyone else experiencing VERY slow connection tonight in the Centurion area? It's been going on for about 2 hours now.

That's fairly risky using an OS that isn't even out of beta to flash the firmware, rather use heXPee or Vista to update the firmware.
Yup, been trying to upgrade my BB for a few days using Win-7 and eventually tried it on XP. Went through first time.

Thing with Win-7, it's so stable you forget it's a beta.

Yep, did the MC950D on a XP machine last night, worked first time round :)

About Win7 - hell yeah, running a 7077 build, and it is stable like you can't believe

Hi V3G, Not sure if this is the right place to report this, but here it goes.

Area: Castleview, Germiston
Ping response to myadsl.co.za 38% loss
Min ping: 252ms
Max ping: 572ms

I have tried on two different devices and two different sim cards. Was fine last night.

I have tried to phone 155, but they cannot help me.

So I've been sitting here in my chair since 5pm... its now 6:02pm... GMail still hasnt finished loading.

So i wanted to open this thread, which i have bookmarked... i started trying that just after 5:30.
Yes.
30 minutes to load this page.

Something is badly wrong with Vodacom's data somewhere.
