Come on guys lets give v3g/Vodacom the help they need, that is obviously where we can. :p :p

I know that this is one of the most difficult questions to answer, but can we perhaps get an indication of timescale? Are we talking days, weeks or perhaps months here?

There are a few relevant areas:

1) Pre-paid connectivity issue - Interim work helped, new systems starting to go in this week.

2) Internal capacity upgrades - 2 systems done, one (affecting Gauteng), this week.

3) Additional International bandwidth - Awaiting SAIX. No ETA, but should not be weeks.

4) Current broken SAIX link - No idea, but as it affects ADSL as well, hopefully quick.

If I get better dates, I'll post.

Thanks, that helps. At least we can get an idea of what to expect.

There are many elements in the path between your PC and the ultimate destination you're trying to reach, including the tower and many links through the VC network, right till you break out onto the internet.

The VC speed test gives us an indication where a potential problem lies and allow us to fix the actual broken bit.

For example, if you get...

VC: 50kb/s
Telkom: 50kb/s
NY: 50kb/s

...it's patently clear that the problem lies purely on the VC network.

If you get...

VC: 500kb/s
Telkom: 50kb/s
NY: 50kb/s

...it's a local peering problem.

If you get...

VC: 500kb/s
Telkom: 500kb/s
NY: 50kb/s

...it's an international bandwidth problem.

And so on. In all three examples you still getting a crap service, but at least we can pin it down to the faulty area.

thanks very much for taking the time to explain it to me, that was a reasonably thorough explanation and i think i have a better understanding now of how it all works...(I'm am not one of the technically minded folk on here although I sometimes like to believe I am).

There appears to be a DNS problem this morning, I can connect to the network, but all DNS requests timeout so can't surf anywhere.
I'm in Cape Town using Vodacom pre-paid, using Virgin Mobile to post this.

Hell this is frustrating, i would be willing to sacrifice some speed for a little bit of stability at this point - up and down after 5 days just isn't working for me anymore !

Come on ! Sort it out !

VC 3g/HSDPA Connection Problems in Cape Town

Data Package: Prepaid Data Bundle - myMeg500
Browsing Device: HP Pavilion Laptop DV6000
Modem/Phone: Samsung U700 - HSDPA phone

Location: Brackenfell/Vredekloof
I got disconnected around 22h35 last night and when I tried to connect again, the DNS problem (stated by by Ginggs) started to show it's nasty head ..... I got connected to the network, but couldnt surf any websites.

Location: Parow East
This morning the problem still persists. Connect to network, but no surfing ....

VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!

Do the 4U contract guys have the same problems as the prepaid ones? I just cannot setup someone (who has already bought the VC PCMCIA card) on a PPDB with this crazyness going on.

Also is it possible to recharge 4U contract using vouchers or do you have to get billed at the end of every month?

I got dropped at 11PM last night. My connection was still up (using P990i + USB cable) but I could not access any sites and skype would not connect. I disconnected and reconnected, no problem but I once again could not access anything. I tried internetvpn and unrestricted, same problem. I was having DNS issues throughout the evening. nslookup would time out the first time and success 2nd or 3rd time.

VODACOM: WTF???? Enough now!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vodacom, please come on chaps, enough is now just enough. We are sick and tired of the 619 errors, slow speeds if you are lucky enough to get any speed at all, constant disconnects / reconnects etc etc etc !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an pre paid data bundles which expire after a month. The problem is that the SERVICE THAT I AM PAYING FOR IS ONLY EVER USEABLE FOR HALF OF THE MONTH!!!!!!

I am not going to ping anything, check dns, ip's etc etc, I shouldn't have to, I SIMPLY WANT THE SERVICE THAT I AM PAYING FOR, YES PAYING FOR!!!!!, FOR THE FULL MONTH AND THE ABILITY TO USE ALL OF MY DATA WITHIN THAT MONTH WITHOUT LOSING MOST OF IT BECAUSE I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO USE IT BECAUSE OF THE CRAPPY SERVICE THAT IS BEING PROVIDED!!!!!!!!

As it is now AT THIS MOMENT, I am posting this using another network, BECAUSE ONCE AGAIN VODACOM'S 3G / HSDPA SERVICE IS DOWN AND HAS BEEN SINCE YESTERDAY AFTERNOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vodacom, someone needs to sit up and take notice: YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE FRUSTRATED, UNHAPPY AND QUITE FRANKLY HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!

Something needs to be done and soon! It is a sorry state of affairs when your customers are hoping, praying that you will deliver at the very least only HALF OF THE SERVICE THAT YOUR FLASHY ADVERTS PROMISE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Come on guys, play the game!!!!

Its now been 18 hrs!!! I have had to purchase a PPD on another network, just to do my work and connect!!!!! But the end of the month period, you will be so so so so quick to cut off my remaining data of the 1 gig bundle that I bought from you Vodacom and COULD NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Insulting, ridiculous, pathetic!!!!!!!!!

I'm working at Rietvalleirand, Pretoria & have been disconnected at least 20 times since 09h00. Don't know how Vodacom expect companies to do business when things are like this. Mind you, Telkom does it every day to SA businesses.

Oh, I'm on prepaid. :sick::mad:

Just wanted to find out. Are you on a 3G Preferred profile or 3G Only profile. Cause I get many disconnections if I'm in a low coverage area and the profile tries to switch back and forth between GPRS and 3G. So I usually keep it on the 3G Only profile and I get less frequent disconnections.
