I got EDGE speed on my EDGE connection for the first time in months last night 128kbps down and 28kbps up... (I had stopped complaining as I was given so many excuses it was painful... cell breathing, congested backhaul, new towers etc.).... but there were still server disconnects and I had to change my DNS....

lol, what a horrible weekend Vodaocm 3g/hsdpa really sucks. But what can be done about it. I phoned Vodacom yesterday and told them that Iam tired of complaining and all their crap, I want my contract cancelled. They gave me a reference number and said someone would call me first thing monday morning. So hopefully if everything goes well I wont be complaining for much longer.

Iam going to sign up with telkom and Vodacom can give my modem to some other sucker.

Mission critical should be operational 99.9999%

Good on you. I don't want to move away from VC, but I'll have to get used to VC and other SA companies who just don't understand mission critical needs to work 99.9999% of the time.

I don't use phone email often, but I see it as mission critical and it just isn't up 99.9999% of the time. :eek:

VC feels it's okay to be down for up to and even more than 24 hours with their email service.

Speed and Connectivity in Waterfall and Linkhills for the last 2 weeks have been cronic but at home in Paradise Valley have been ok but its at work I need the speed ect
Vodacom need a policy to notify all customers when there is a breakdown / upgrade ( which seems to be gooing backwards at the moment is very rapid way )

Nope, didn't move it - left it in the thread you posted it in, and just quoted it in this thread :).

Ok, got it. Not quite there today :)

Was up most of the night building a voice front-end for all my stuff (AV equipment, lights, PC's, etc.) using Vista's speech recognition. Works extremely well. I've now achieved a new level of laziness, don't even need to lift a finger to do stuff! Very cool :D

The problem referred to above was resolved (I'm told) around 11pm last night.

General update....actually I'm going to update the first post in this thread.

/Edit: OK, done. Will keep on updating the first post if anything new transpires.

Things generally running a bit better today than normal. Not lightning fast but there certainly seems to be some stability versus previous weeks/months. Hope Vodacom is finally getting to the root of this :)

Ok, maybe just let me know about updates and I can then quote them in the forum announcement - AFAIK the forum s/w won't notify about edits to an existing post - only about new posts posted.

Yeah took me a while to figure out if it was a previous post or the actual very first post in this thread.

As per my normal modus operandi, I spoke to soon. Having immense problems with international connectivity to Canada. Unusable. Local and certain other international links seem ok.

Last night connecting on prepaid was a bloody nightmare. Connects for 1 second then disconnects, when it stays connected no data throughput.

It's been how long now? 4 weeks or so?

1 - Problems with Remote Desktop (Port 3389) on unrestricted apn. Have not tested the other apn's yet but cannot connect to any servers using RDP.

2 - dreaded blank white web pages are back.

3 - International links slower than anything

4 - Timeouts local and international

5 - Problems sending mail, local and international

Why should I have to use up my bandwidth to refresh a page 10-20 times just to read the bleeding thing? At least 30-40% of my usage over the last 2 months has been wasted by a poorly functioning network.

3G/EDGE has been a disaster this last week or 2. Normally at about 7pm, and then 10pm it just dies. Cant receive or send anything. I have full signal though (EDGE). Other times dns errors along with pages just not showing. Here's my info:

Area: Howick, KZN
Modem: My Phone (Nokia 6288)
APN: internet

I'm on prepaid, seems as prepaid get a raw deal when it comes to 3g :p

Here are my current ping times, its probably at the most stable its been in a long time (still slow as hell though):

ping -t smtp.vodacom.co.za :

Ping statistics for 196.11.146.148:
Packets: Sent = 16, Received = 16, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 318ms, Maximum = 979ms, Average = 580ms

ping -t -l 500 smtp.vodacom.co.za :

Ping statistics for 196.11.146.148:
Packets: Sent = 15, Received = 15, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 575ms, Maximum = 1460ms, Average = 1006ms

ping -t -l 1000 smtp.vodacom.co.za :

Ping statistics for 196.11.146.148:
Packets: Sent = 22, Received = 21, Lost = 1 (4% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 717ms, Maximum = 1606ms, Average = 991ms

Poor Connection today

I'm having significant problems tonight with the network. Slow responses, dns errors???

Come one guys, I had brilliant service over the last number of years. Don't let me down now:(

BTW. Strange how quickly things like 3g can be a major frustration that I could not even imagine 3 years ago?

Unbelievable...

Same here. Been flaky -as hell- for weeks, looked like it was starting to come right on Friday, was OK over the weekend, then went down for me sometime last night, and has been flaky ever since. Totally unusable now, can't even connect.

This is really getting ridiculous. I've been using Virgin Mobile GPRS/EDGE for a year or so, and that started getting -really- bad over the past few months (apart from the fact that I could never find EDGE coverage).
So, a few months ago, I went and got a Vodafone 3G card, and a prepaid SIM, so I could have a connection that actually -works-, and so it did, until maybe 2-3 weeks ago... Useless bastards...

When are South African telecommunications providers going to get a clue?
The quality of service is -digusting-...

Oh come on guys... Every Network has its ups and downs. If we were such "Loyal" subscribers, we would have more faith in Vodacom to deliver.
