Things have become a bit more stable on my side. But i think thats becoz i have been using a contract SIM. I havent tried my Prepaid since like a week ago. Speed seems to be ok(meaning not acceptable but i'll live with it). SHOOT! I just realised my PPDB expires tonight at 12 and i have like 100megs left on it... time for some Downloading :D

Please let us know what's next. Has the SAIX upgrade happened and are the additional upgrades to solve the 619 still underway?

This morning I tried internetvpn about 3 times and gave up (619 errors). Attempt number three on internet got me connected. I am in the residential areas just behind CC (as per my location).

PS. I was connected for about 5 hours on unrestricted last night without any issues, so for me it really seems to be APN dependent.

Some of the SAIX upgrades happened, but the biggest improvement I saw (international jumped by a factor 4 to 5!) came after they 'discovered' a problem on their network and 'fixed' it.

After this 'fix' I'm getting constant 500Kb/s+ international, up from ~100Kb/s.

"Disconnect-fixing' upgrades still on-tract as per my first post.

I assume you mean kb/s and not Kb/s :) (or is that from the office network?)

FWIW here are my speed tests. Looks good compared to some of the results poster earlier.

1- VC Speedtest: http://speed.vodacom.co.za (VC portion) D: 994kb/s U: 342kb/s
2- SpeedTest to Cpt on http://speedtest.net (local SAIX) D: 694kb/s U: 354kb/s
3- SpeedTest to Ne York on http://speedtest.net (international SAIX) D: 518kb/s U: 339kb/s
4- SpeedTest to London on http://speedtest.net (international SAIX) D: 538kb/s U: 301kb/s

What I have discovered is that using firefox the upload test on both vodacom (inconsistent) and speedtest (more often than not) gets to 100% but the test carries on (i.e. the upload speed fluctuates) and then I end up with a really bad upload score.

It is not the case of the 'k'|'K' that is significant, it is the case of the 'b' [bits] | 'B' [Bytes] that is significant. Clearly v3g was referring to kbits/s in his post.

Ok, then. Its just not everyone is consistent with how they use it :)

I suspect it's a problem with the flash on FF. Both sites use the same underlying test and it probably was written for flash in IE.

Try with IE (sorry!) and let us know.

These tests are with IE. I just thought I'd point it out for the other FF users

Just hit the throughput problem again. Was connected, but could not access any sites, reconnected again no problems.

Got so many 619 errors last night, this service is crap. They sort one thing out and 3 days later back with more problems, not to mention the horrid latency again.

This weekend did it for me, I dont have to put up with Vodacoms **** anymore (well at least until they install my phone line and convert it to adsl). Thats right people I am going with adsl.

I will never ever get another contract through these ppl. not cellphone not 3g nothing. They have just lost a good customer.

Hi Guys

Looks like I'm the only one that had, FOR THE FIRST TIME, NO problems whatsover this entire weekend. The network was very stable, no disconnects, decent speeds (average 800kbps down and 300kbps up)

And this morning, everything is still going strong ... been connected the entire morning.
So seems like the upgrades/fixes worked for my areas (Brackenfell, Parow, Worcester) - this is where I've been since friday ..

Could this be because the fixes are rolled out to regions individually or is it one rollout for all regions? Maybe the fix hasnt been rolled out to your area BarfisH.

I don't know, it's just a thought.. Maybe Vodacom3G can confirm.

Anyway, I feel your pain Barfish88 and the rest of you 3g/HSDPApians ....

You could try porting instead and when Voda get their stuff together reconsider them. Just a suggestion.

// its been pretty good, International is still abit scratchy though and latency has a tendency to be up and down - or good or bad

Just a thank you to the network guys for fixing the slow speed in Stellenbosch. My signal has improved by 5dB (I haven't moved or changed a thing) so I assume they installed the 2nd radio on Papegaaiberg as they said they would. A friend of mine around the corner is also very happy.

Just did a speed test with my 6680 and got 360 kbps down and 58 kbps up.

It's my first hour of using this VERY expensive service and am constantly disconnected.

I don't know all the technical stuff contained in the rest of the thread for fixing and flashing and whatever else, so I hope this gets sorted out somehow on its own. Perhaps I should fall to my knees and say a quick prayer :p
