If you get a 10.x.x.x IP, you're on the internet apn and not the internetvpn apn.

The info in the first post was originally for a specific problem we had quite a long time ago and does not really apply. For historical reasons I did not want to delete it but did so now as it seems to be confusing.

If you want to do relevant tests, you could test your local vs. international throughput.

The disconnect issue is really a jay or nay thing.

Eish. First you tell me I must go and read post one, no if's or but's now you tell me it does not really apply and the reasons given. I asked in posts several times what can we do to help YOU Vodacom/v3g to pin point the problems. If you upfront already know and you/v3g/vodacom do know exactly what are causing the problems because have said so in post 1. Please then dont tell us to look at post 1 but tell us we are going to shutdown xyz at 20h30 on xx day etc. etc. And then we can also plan our time tod something else, not phone 155 do this do that then to be told yes there is a problem. How long will it take sorry we can not tell you. I just don't .....................................................................................**&^%$%$$@#@.

No it's not what I want to do it is how can I help to locate/localise the problem. If you people know what is going on then says so. Be honest & upfront. Does it mean if you give a date like 31/08 that means the whole day or part of or what of. People have waisted hours & Megabytes.

Here I am sitting and working lekker and suddenly at +- 20:30 bang all gone 3G/GPRS die hele blerry lot.:mad: ;) :p

@v3g. :p :p ;) ;)

Activate the service and then cange your current APN to internetvpn.

Will this solve our problems?
Nope.

Does anyone know whats happening?
It's the end of the month. Everyone is trying to finish out their remaining $$$ Bandwidth. Network Clogged. Even on ADSL.

Does anyone know whether or not vc is actually doing anything about it?
If he can do anything about it, be assured that he will.

If you look at post 1 you will see that today was scheduled for upgrades and updates but no schedule was given.

Will this solve our problems?

According to v3g no.

crappy hangs all the time. signal strength shows all the bars and HSDPA, but the Huawei (latest firmware with latest Huawei software) will hang on downloads at 281 bytes. Sometimes disconnecting the modem and reconnecting will allow full speed connections. Not often though.

This has been going on for about 2 weeks on and of down here, more so since Aug 29. Unpredictable and lame. I am using my connection for business and this is frustrating!

Since most of my connecting goes to Canada, does vodacom have a proxy server in SA that can cache pages? I am sure it would take some of the weight off the international network. If a proxy server exists, anybody know the address?

Please refer to post 1 it will answer some of your questions.

A proxy server I don't think so.

Enjoy S.A.

In all honesty, you did not read post 1 completely :)

It's not a call for tests but an update post on the known problems we have. For the umpteenth time, it's about the disconnects pre-paid is seeing (and we know how to fix it and is busy fixing it) and the original problem of very slow international throughput (which should be mostly resolved by a substantial amount of capacity upgrades)

Obviously other problems might surface and will and should be discussed in this thread.

I get the impression you've been away for a while and did not follow the extensive discussions here, nor the feedback I gave here. I'm beginning to feel like a stuck record retyping the same story over and over again.

In any case, if you post a problem here, at least make sure you put a description in, your area (the location field is great for this) and relevant apn. Also contract or pre-paid.

A number of proxies in place. You automatically go via them.

From Cpt, I'm getting (on contract, internet apn):

VC - 1100Kb/s
speedtest.net local: - 800Kb/s
speedtest.net NY: - 540Kb/s
speedtest.net London: - 580Kb/s

I did correct the mistake I made in post 1570

It's not a call for tests but an update post on the known problems we have. For the umpteenth time, it's about the disconnects pre-paid is seeing (and we know how to fix it and is busy fixing it) and the original problem of very slow international throughput (which should be mostly resolved by a substantial amount of capacity upgrades)

That portion you removed from Post 1. I do understand it was for problems in the past. Is this information now useless to you ??

Obviously other problems might surface and will and should be discussed in this thread.

I agree. The forumites will give the feedback chop chop.

I get the impression you've been away for a while and did not follow the extensive discussions here, nor the feedback I gave here. I'm beginning to feel like a stuck record retyping the same story over and over again.

You are correct. Because when I left it was shaky & I get back after 8 days and it is still shaking & the forumites are whining. I only read a few of the posts not all 15xx. But I did pick up in the posts that the forumites had no idea where this train was going. So I stuck my neck/head out and now I am getting hammered. Come now be honest you only started updating post 1 today 31/08. The last time you updated post 1 was 31/08 at 07:59 PM and you said you would bump the thread everytime you do an update. The last bump you did was at 05:26 PM.

In any case, if you post a problem here, at least make sure you put a description in, your area (the location field is great for this) and relevant apn. Also contract or pre-paid.

Please explain you have lost me with this one.

This is only a request on how I/we can assist. Do you not have preferred local and over sea's site's that you would like to use as test sites, for pings and what ever other commands you would like us to use. At least this will give you a common picture from around the country to the preferred locations?

It is a good idea to use post 1 for the regular updates but we need to know if there has been updates.

We are only a couple of VC user that are on the Forum, if this is how we feel, how about the thousands of other users out in the cold that do not get the updates that we get and see.

That is the joy's of being in a support position everybody shouts at you it is all your fault and you want to tell all but you may not. Sometimes it is good to sit on the other side of the table. Could expand on this but this is not the place.

:) :D

What's the 3G signal like? The only difference between 2G and 3G is at the radio level. After that it's all the same infrastructure.

Which apn, btw?

The signal was around 24 or 25 %. I was trying the internet APN. I have tried the internetvpn apn only when I couldn't connect on the internet apn and I have always got the same 619 errors. I haven't tried internetvpn when internet apn is working --> I have never connected through the internetvpn apn. I did manage to finish my bundle with some windows updates when I eventually connected on HSDPA (internet apn) and went about R5 oob. The USSD and sms balance systems were out of order last night as well. But I knew roughly how many MB I had left and just used the stats from netmeter.

The other issue today (not sure if this is the right thread to post this) is that I can't buy any PPDB through the USSD or sms system. I'm on Virgin at the moment because I didn't want to use oob on VC.

@sky.akash.

Did you loose any data? Did you not say were on PPD?

Nope didn't lose any data - did some windows updates to finish it off quickly then went to bed;)

Yep I was on a PPDB. I got it on my Top Up contract --> the airtime kicks in on the first of every month that's why I got my last bundle on the first of August. Seems a bit stupid in hindsight:eek:

But in any event we are all still going to experience problems at/near month end until capacity is increased extensively (--> expensive solution <--) :([on an ongoing basis as user numbers increase every day/month] or VC implements rollover (--> cheaper solution <--):D
