Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Yes, last night was a dog again (no pun intended) ...

My only saving grace is the good resumption of downloads in Firefox and GetRight.

A disconnect/reconnect worked for most part, but I also had to remove the E220 at times ("not configured correctly" message upon reconnect).

Anyways, I'm still not able to stay connected for more than 15-30 minutes without experiencing some problem or the other.

OK, will chase it up again.

Won't you PM me your contact details, address and data card number?

Hullo all

Sorry I didn't check back in earlier today.

My Feedback is thus: I was typing my last message before bed, and the light stopped being green and started being blue... due in no part to my technical expertise. So yeah, tower rebooting or sumthing, I guess.

Just observed that I'm getting pretty slow international throughput atm. My vodacom test is quick as ever and all local pings are good.. except for telkom - So I'm assuming something has melted over at the monopoly house.. I'm not raiding tonight, so I'm not too bothered :P

Problems connecting via gprs

I'm having problems connecting via gprs in pretoria. I can connect fine if there's 3g signal but as soon as i lose 3g signal i cannot connect at all. Tried restarting phone, using different profiles. Tried phone in gsm only mode doesn't help. Was working fine this morning.

Seriously, do you have any feedback on the problems in Pretoria East?

And I'm not referring to the Tshwane waste removal issue, that appears to be back on track ;-)

I can vouch for the problems that nextstep is having in Pretoria East. I visited my sister (who also stay in The Wilds) last weekend and took my laptop with, well to cut it short I had to connect to their ADSL line as my 3G/HSDPA connection with my E220 was very crap and had disconnects the whole time..My LED was like a disco light switching through the 2 variants of blue...

Well back in Midrand everything seems alright :)

We understand the exact nature of the problems seen by the Menlyn-brigade, basically the modems are swithing constantly between 3G and HSDPA and then, on top of it, get themselves in to a state where they cannot transfer data.

Some fixes went in last night, can anyone confirm if it's better, the same, worse?

Again, this only affects certain sites in Pta East, where new version base stations went in recently.

Nope,

Experiencing fluctuating latency. Like watching the waves in Durban.

Area: Garsfontein, Pretoria

Hi V3G, just throwing my hat in the ring as well.

From Joburg, edenvale/sandringham area, speaking on behalf of two separate users experiencing identical problems, occurring and ongoing since Tuesday this week if I'm recalling correctly.

3G hops along great, then suddenly bombs. Dash still says connected, blue lights still flashing, but i.e. says "failed to connect - website may be experiencing problems, you may not be connected to the internet ... la la etc"

checked all the major sites, all the same, doubt they all having problems simultaneously.
Also checked with another user, same building, and we get dumped at the same time, so doubt it's our individual pc settings.

Then, when 3G has caught it's breath it randoms starts working again.

Very frustrating.

I haven't read all 137 pages of this forum ;-) appologise if the problem has been brought to your attention already.

Thanks

Thanks, will escalate.

Don't think it's the same problem as we saw in Pta. although the symptoms are similar.

Which modems are these?

Actually, just remember; there was a problem identified earlier today that was resolved but could have affected people around Midrand. This was at IP level (as opposed to datalink), so your symptoms tally.

Still seeing it?

I have been having the same problem in Bloemfontein, Woodland Hills area. Everything is connected, but cant open any websites....can get my mail through Oulook though. And then all of a sudden everything is ok again. Using a E220 usb modem. Signal strength is almost full. Need some help as I have only had this modem since sunday and already feel like throwing it out the window!

This is one of the worst nights for Vodacom:
30 second latency at least for some sites. Server disconnects after about 8 seconds. The only way to keep it alive is to keep clicking get every 5 seconds to 'flood' the damn thing and hopefully one request will hit after a while. I'm giving up on this freakin' **** service , tomorrow (or today :) ) is another day.

Although I know you live in a dream world :), won't you update the location filed with your data devices' location?

Any problems in Kempton Park area? Getting mostly GPRS for 2 days now. Was fine for few weeks now. Mmm. Frustrating.

Please help!

I'm Cursed at having the use Vodacom GPRS here in Napier for at least the next month.

Since i've been here for the past 2 od years, the service has degraded to absolute doodoo.

I have spoken to many techs, they have visited my location, the have upgraded the tower all to no avail, apparently the problem is the link from swellendam to bellville, its app totally saturated with requests which result in timeouts, dropped packets, extream high latency, the works.

V3g, could you please find out when they will upgrade the links to our area, i have spoken to all lvls using the normal chanels, and they all seem not to be able to resolve or know when capacity will be increased.

Please assist if you can.

Had the same problems since yesterday morning... GPRS only. I logged a fault with 155, and today someone called to verify my problems. He said he would look into it, and 30 min later I had HSDPA back :D

Sadly that saturated link, would be a Telkodemonopolies link, and both Vodacom and MTN have grief with Telkodemonopolies taking too long to upgrade the capacity of existing links as well as taking too long to install new links - like up to 12 months too long, there are huge backlogs of links waiting for installation & upgrade, v3g might be able to tell you just how many links Vodacom is waiting for in Telkodemonopolies' backlog, MTN was recently quoted as waiting for ~2000 links...

:eek::eek::eek:
