Vodacom Problems: Slow Throughput, trying to Connect, DNS, High Latency

Spent the day at the mybroadband offices testing Neotel. Not even a hint of a dropped connection, or slow through-put. I will be changing to them when there is coverage in the Ballito area.

Maybe you can give more info about your progress with neotel. The problems with vodacom broadband in this area seem to worsen rather than improve...

I'm getting zero throughput again - Cape Town, Woodstock area. This seems to happen every couple of days.

Wait ... its even worse - I can't even ping remote servers now
 
last night i was playing war3 on bnet the europe server and my ping was 140ms but i still got kicked bcoz other people had 20 and 40ms but 140ms is awsome for my vc 3g on a E272 in durban isnt it? i usually get 190-240ms btw.sry to hear about cpt seems cities have different on and off switches.:O

can someone tell me how vodacom conects us from the tower to other countries?thx:~

Was watching Karate Kid on TV last night for the first time in 24 years again, and it seemed so very much like the Vodacom HSDPA experience of late...............wax on, wax off.....switch on, switch off..........switch on, switch off.........and again...........:rolleyes:
 
For the last few hours my internet is crawling at a snails pace. Will check tomorrow morning if its better.
 
International is sucking for me this evening. gmail, youtube all taking ages to load.

This has been going on for the whole of 2008 already...

Can some1 please tell me how the "F" do you still get to be in the top 3 broadband ISP's in S.A ????

ohhhh just a thought if mtn and telcom offer faster speeds at less money(specifically telcom)why is voda still charging for 3.6mb/s .give us more speed ,we use up our cap quickly and buy more .cant w8 for when 10gigs becomes the norm instead of one gig.

No thunderstorms or anything - just hot and humid. Everything is fine this morning - so for the the moment I'm smiling again :D

Been fine here - although uploads are a bit slow

Network Name : VodaCom-SA
Signal Strength : Good
Connection Time : 8 Hours 23 Minute 15 Second

Download Speed: 2218 kbps (277.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 112 kbps (14 KB/sec transfer rate)

Maybe there is something up with your signal strength or tower.
 
Is it just me or is the vlive APN pretty much dead? Having serious trouble connecting to it, so I'm using internet APN instead. Was just wondering if it's just me...doesn't bother me much though :)

Are you trying the vlive apn on your phone or pc?

The vlive apn is only zero-rated when visiting the vlive site [on your phone].

On my phone. It used to work fine for mxit (probably with normal data rates). I see it connects but no data traffic taking place when I connect to mxit. Could be a mxit problem I guess since I see gmail loads fine via it.

EDIT: I see it works fine now for mxit even. Wonder if it had something to do with the congested network I experienced last night? Does vlive apn maybe get a lower priority or something? internet apn's EDGE was barely usable (probably high latency) and the vlive wouldn't connect. Should probably do a ping and speedtest the next time I experience it.

HSDPA in my location is up and down like a tarts knickers!

I did manage a very erratic 12Mb download just now and then got dumped off again.

Even the myBB home page took ages to appear just now.
