Just received an sms ad:- starts with

"Please call MARIAAN",

which is all that shows on the screen. Scrolling down shows

"(Ad) Did you know that Vodacom customers can now send 10 FREE Please Call Me messages every day! Enjoy connecting..."

That is a con trick.

I wonder how many folk have a Mariaan in their contacts (I'd say quite a few seeing as it is an Afrikaans country), who simply phone Mariaan to find that they have wasted a few cents into the mighty coffers of the giant who doesn't care.

I reported it to the advertising standards authority.

Yip- most likely "Mariaan" mistyped your number into her plscall request...

I get mistaken calls to my number quite often. The odd sms too...

dial *140# there is a option to stop call me messages OR to disable the advertisements.

Lol I think its a customised "please call me"
You can customise your Please call me's with your name...

I see your point, but it is unlikely.

if they wanted people to phone they wouldn't of put "mariaan" - more something like "Pamela" or "Foxy"

no offense to ladies named mariaan.
