Vodacom will charge you to roll over mobile data

No. I am paying for a set amount of a resource. Its not a fruit that goes bad, and hence needs a time restraint. Thats why the new regulation was brought in to prevent data from "expiring". It is pure thievery what vodacom is doing here.

No, it is not. They are not taking your money away from you. You know full well upfront what you are buying. If you don't like the product on offer, go get it somewhere else.

I'm sure Cell C and MTN will also charge from what I read on MyBB articles, so maybe businessinsider is wrong.

MTN said it has been offering data rollover for a number of years, and therefore is already fully compliant.

Cell C
The country’s third largest cellular network said data for contract customers will automatically roll over to the next month, for a maximum period of two months, at no extra cost.

The article says otherwise.

Following the publication of our article, Vodacom removed the rollover charges page from its website.

The company told MyBroadband it is currently reviewing its pricing and “will communicate this on the planned launch date 1 March”.
Hehe damage seems to be already be done!

What about transferring data on contracts?

When I try (on USSD) it says I must phone 082 135. When I phone, such an option is not available in the voice menus, and when I spoke to an agent she said it is not possible to enable transfers.

Well, after reading your post I decided to go see if I can transfer data on Telkom since I have 6 GB Telkom, and another 2 Gb all network data of which 2 GB will expire on Thursday, and apparently it can be done. Transferred a gig to my wife, can transfer a gig a day for free apparently(up to 10 GB), quite cool.

Yes, I transfer 10GB per month (1GB per day) to my dad.

I love it, since I've had the rain sim I don't really use my telkom data anymore as I don't use a lot of data in rain peak times as I'm then busy with the kids first, and then go to bed (just a bit of MYBB browsing). So if not for this I would have lost all my contract data.

If you continue to support this network then you are the reason this is happening.
No sympathy for anyone still with these guys

So who do you recommend? I hate Telkom, MTN is crap...Cell C ?

You are paying for access to a portion of the network for a specific period. You analogy is incorrect. It's like paying for a time limited pass for access to a highway.
That is not how they sell and market it, as they advertise and sell the product based on the quantity not the time. So, it's your analogy that's not quite accurate. A more accurate analogy in that paradigm would be a pass to drive a certain distance on the highway. What they are doing is adding some small print that this expires after a period for no good reason.
