That is not how they sell and market it, as they advertise and sell the product based on the quantity not the time. So, it's your analogy that's not quite accurate. A more accurate analogy in that paradigm would be a pass to drive a certain distance within a specific time period on the highway.

What they are doing is adding some small print that this expires after a period for no good reason.

That's exactly what is being sold. You know you are purchasing X amount of data for use in X period. Saying that it is not is disingenuous. At least be honest and upfront about what you want.
 
Funny all these people defending the principle that a data allocation should expire after a month. It's not milk. It's transmitting electrons and radio waves.

There is no intrinsic reason why 1GB of data that I buy today cannot be used tomorrow or three months from now, or why it would be difficult for a network to do that, especially considering they've been sitting on your money in the interim.

The only reason to structure it the way they do is greed and the continued confidence that the consumer will buy into their artificial paradigm of "expiring" data. A good demonstration of this attitude is how they will always use your newest bundle first.

I'm all for capitalism - they would be remiss if they didn't exploit the opportunities, but they've dipped their hands too deeply in the cookie jar and blown the illusion that expiring data in a few months is a necessary thing. If they want recurring revenue they'd be better off selling pure access time with a speed throttle, not access time plus a quantity limit.
 
This overly complicated and 100% draconian rollover pricing sends a very clear message that Vodacom despises its customers and intends to punish customers for ICASA's regulations.

Well done Scameelperd, you have shown your customers the middle bean counter finger.

Paying R10/1GB so why would I pay R49 to roll it over WTF
 
It is typical of the cellphone companies. They will find some way to screw over the customers.
 
Vodacom is the only network to keep data at R149 a gig and refused to drop prices, 1 gig is 15 mins on YouTube, if vodascum chargers a fee to transfer data other networks will follow the trend, its like vodacom chargers R149 a gig why should we keep reducing data prices, telkom was affordable, watch how those big deals specials they have will fall away after roaming deal with vodacom, with telkom for almost 2 years and ever since they signed agreement with vodacom my ping is 60 to 100ms, should average around 30ms max anytime of day, have screenshots of my speed test before they signed agreement with vodascum and after, move over to mtn cancel vodacrap contracts!
