Vodacom will charge you to roll over mobile data

My contract is due for renewal and I was about to renew for the S10+ with Vodacom. I think I will move to CellC and save some big money!

What about the monthly data included in your Vodacom contract? Will they also rollover the remaining data each month?

CellC offers some amazing deals on Fridays like S10+ with 1200 minutes and 10Gb data for R999

Todays article:

The mobile operator said that contract customers who are subscribed to packages which include data will continue to have data rolled over for one month, free of charge.

Still not interested. It should automatically roll over indefinitely. If Cell C can offer R10/GB valid for a year then I don't see why Vodacom can't do that at R149/GB.

"From 1 March, remaining data on bundle purchases by all customers will be rolled over at no additional charge once a customer purchases the same bundle as the original one,"
are they not complicating their own processes with this? though i imagine it shouldn't be some advanced coding that will be needed.

I assume that Vodacom still doesn't have Realtime Data Usage Monitoring for Contract Data Bundles (data usage updates delayed from 3 hours to several days), and if that is still the case (since circa 2005), this new and overly complicated screw the customer brain fart has to be far beyond Vodacom's coding capabilities and will result in numerous unintended side effects even if the new system was coded from scratch.

Maybe @jannievanzyl can confirm?

You are paying for access to a portion of the network for a specific period. You analogy is incorrect. It's like paying for a time limited pass for access to a highway.
So its all about time and nothing to do with usage.

If one person buys 1tb of data and the other 100mb, both expire at month end, irrespective of who uses what.

I call BS.

So if you have a 1GB bundle on your contract with Vodacom and you have 100mb left at the end of the month, then you have to pay Vodacom R49 to roll over the 100mb?

Meanwhile I'm happy with Telkom LTE for about 6 years now. 20GB+20GB for R299 and any remaining data has always been carried over.

Even worse if that's the case.

Data that you buy are not supposed to expire, so how are they getting away with this?

o_O

People should not support greedy Companies like this, regardless if they sponsor their favourite spot team or not.

Vodacom appears to have adopted the attitude of entitlement that Telkom was forced to abandon after many years of competition slowly and relentlessly chipping away at Telkom's legislated monopoly.

Telkom was forced to become competitive along with the old guard management team leaving and the eventual formation of 8ta which was a game changer for Telkom.

Vodacom needs a new CEO that recognises the importance of being competitive and doesn't have "SCREW THE CUSTOMERS" at the top of their TODO list.
