Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Good luck, I hope this helps you.

I installed Livestreamer and ran a few streams but Source is still choppy and this is on a 40 Mb VDSL as you know.
Speedtests are showing line speed so I'm not sure what else the issue could be now.

Have you set the number of connections in the config file to 10? That is how Livestreamer gets around the caching problems that Twitch causes.

That's weird. I just loaded up Livestreamer myself now to check, and got a Source stream running buttery smooth pretty much instantly, on 20mbps VDSL.

I just looked at this from our LAN (imagine the speed...) Twitch using Source, is still horrible using Twitch.com

I've loaded the following:

Livestreamer Twitch GUI: https://github.com/bastimeyer/livestreamer-twitch-gui/releases
Livestreamer: https://github.com/chrippa/livestreamer/releases
VLC player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Here's the config I used: http://pastebin.com/QztBDbhD

Running source beautifully.

From what I've read about trying to watch Twitch (Source) from the Twitch website, it's not very good. Livestreamer seems to be the way forward.

The issue you're experiencing is not related to the DSL network.

Seems like Livestreamer GUI loads Livestreamer which then loads VLC.

Good luck, I hope this helps you.

Twitch has been a problem streaming site for most ISPs, even on 40mbps vdsl it buffers on source no matter which ISP i'm on.

I'm just clicking through channels at the moment and instantly getting Source quality streams. I can even launch multiple at the same time. I honestly don't think the problem is with Vox on this one.

I'm open to suggestions.
Why would 40Mb not be capable?

Did you try Nick_K's suggestion of increasing connections in livestreamer?

I'm running it on Linux so I can't tell you how on Windows, but it should be documented somewhere on their site.

Also worthwhile to try Google's DNS, since people are having problems on Vox's default ones and if livestreamer is failing to resolve server addresses it would probably affect it.

Find this file on Windows: %APPDATA%\livestreamer\livestreamerrc

Then set these settings:

hls-segment-threads=10
hds-segment-threads=10

I have done all of the above.
Let's assume I know what I'm doing just for the hell of it.

Ok, just for the hell of it :)

I can't offer you any further explanation then, only anecdotal evidence that it's running really well on my side. Come 6pm I probably won't be able to load the thumbnails to click through to the channels, but for now, livestreamer is performing really well.

Thanks.

This isn't the first time I've been through all of this.
I've had similar issues on multiple isps.

I get line speed on everything but Twitch.

The difficulty is that twitch's service is ****e. The fact that there are standalone programs to multithread twitch streams in the first place is indication of the problem. TBH using livestreamer is the first time I've ever seen twitch stable above medium quality across any ISP across the years, and I've used many. If I stream from the twitch website itself it'll struggle to reach high.

I have never even been able to watch on high consistently across Afrihost, Mweb, Webafrica or Vox until using Livestreamer. With it I could watch on source with only the occasional stutter so I'm surprised you are still having problems when using it.

I get source, no lag, 60fps on WebAfrica... 10Mb line working at around 8.7Mb/s

Worth mentioning I could NEVER stream twitch even on high on Afrihoax

The IS network was always fantastic for streaming, though I had problems with twitch even then. I haven't used an IS based ISP for a while, but if they've optimised twitch on their network, their customers must be pleased.

Perhaps there are still DNS problems with Vox's auto-assigned servers. Bittorrent is a connect-heavy protocol - if your client is trying and failing to resolve a lot of addresses, that could account for the poor speeds.

And when I do Saix ping of 500+ and download of 0.34 mps
