Alternatively for R299 from webafrica you can get 90gb and 260gb to use between 12am-6am. Been issues there too. I use WA as my office hours account and performance for me is superb.

How much do you use per month and at what time of the day is your usage at its highest?

This bolt-on is the business!

Thanks sand_man. I was very happy with WA but they like CW are having serious IPC problems in the south. Based on this thread Vox customers seem to be happy hence the enquiry. I've been paying R399 for WA 120gb + 480gb which is my benchmark price point.

Yeah, get a 100gb fatpipe for R328 per month and a gig4gig with uncapped bolt-on for R59 per month (total cost R387). You just need to juggle the 2 accounts between peak and off peak via your router settings.

Unused fatpipe data rolls over at the end of the month which is a bonus. Bolt-on you would use all weekend and Monday to Friday 6pm to 6am.

I'm using macros to automatically connect to different ISP's at different times of the day. Just started using Perfect Automation today and the first scheduled automation didn't happen. Had to switch over manually. Hopefully the next macro scheduled for 5.55am tomorrow will work. That logs me of Vox bolt-on and onto my WebAfrica 200gb capped account.

That is exactly the problem/pain I want to avoid. Let me know if you come right...

Averaging 4-9 gigs a day, although had to download about 80 gigs from steam over 2 days. Mostly streaming Netflix, Hulu during day upto 9pm when I'm home. Was thinking about CW but they same to be having issues.

You should try 25 gig4gig with bolt-on.

What time are you usually home?

Bolt-on usage wouldn't count against your 25gb cap and bolt-on would have you covered from 6pm till 6am on weekdays and all weekend. That's Friday 6pm till Monday morning 6am.

That is exactly the problem/pain I want to avoid. Let me know if you come right...

Worked like a dream!!! I was up at 5.55am this morning watching it and it did exactly what I had hoped it would.

Signing up for Vox Pipe. Happy at reading the positive feedback.

I was a little hesitant at first - noticed when you don't see a thread on top / irate customers complaining means their service is superb compared to competitors

hi sand, im also looking at VOX at the moment. What package are you on currently?

my 20m vdsl is currently with telkom, i tend to get capped and bolt-on. can you give your experience with bolt-on?

I called VOX twice, one lady tells me its unshaped the other tells me its shaped. So i am kind of confused

Okay, I'm not sure how VOX and vdsl perform together but on a 10mb ADSL line the bolt-on performs SUPERBLY!! I'm also using the bolt-on on a 20mb ADSL line and performance is SUPERB!!

What is your budget? And what are your usage patterns? IE how many gb's per month roughly? And roughly at what time of the day? And are you gaming? Streaming? Downloading?

Bolt-on is an after hours solution but a pretty, bloody marvelous one. Where most of Vox's competitors offer after hours data to use between 12am-6am, VOX bolt-on offers unlimited data to use between 6pm and 6am weekdays AND ALL weekend. What's more until the end of this month you can get gig4gig + bolt-on for R59 per month.

Note: Bolt-on is not sold on its own. It has to be bundled with gig4gig. Gig4gig isn't a particularly impressive product on its own. There's 2 packages currently which are competitively priced. Gig4gig 1gb for R0 IE the 1gb is free. Bolt-on costs R59. So gig4gig 1gb + Bolt-on = R0 + R59 = R59 per month for essentially what is an after hours uncapped account. This on only available until the end of June, then this offer is being discontinued. I would assume that all existing contracts will be honored indefinitely.

The gig4gig 1gb is being replaced with a gig4gig 25gb + bolt-on for R148 per month. Still a very decent product. What do you get? 25gb of data to use anytime and bolt-on to use after hours...

Where gig4gig isn't competitive? If you want more than a 1gb or 25gb account you can top up the account at anytime but at a cost of R15 per gb. This is where is becomes very expensive in relation to what's available on the rest of the market.

If you don't mind swapping router settings out every day between 6pm and 6am there is the option of a VOX fatpipe account. Pricey in relation to what competitors are offering but performance is.... you guessed it... SUPERB!!! (It's around R3-R4 per gb) IE 100gb account is R328...

EDIT: Fatpipe, unfortunately, cannot be bundled with bolt-on. It's really just inconvenient and nothing more. It means having to swap router settings out between bolt-on and fatpipe. I've just fully automated the entire process though, using perfect automation, a free macro recording and scheduling program.

EDIT: To answer your question I am currently using their bolt-on with gig4gig 1gb @ R59 per month.

During office hours I'm using a WebAfrica 200gb capped account @R599 per month. WebAfrica accounts work wonderfully for me, but this is not the case with everyone. Lot's of issues lately. Generally very good though. The account also has an after hours offering of 800gb!!! Impossible to use on a 10mb line between 12am-6am.

EDIT: In terms of your line rental and management? Best to leave it with Telkom.

Already have a do premium account with Telkom. Thinking of adding a bolt-on or going uncapped route.

What your usage patterns though? I get the freedom and feel good factor of uncapped but uncapped RSA style is pretty fraught with uncertainty!

I haven't used an uncapped account for about 3 years now. Capped is just so much better and actually quite affordable these days.

Anyway a combination of fatpipe and bolt-on is the way to go, no doubt in my mind.

wow very detailed response thanks bud. what speeds are you getting on ur 20M ADSL line with bolt-on? Is it shaped/unshaped?

I generally used around 250GB/month on my previous mweb accounts. For gaming/p2p/streaming, it seems like price/performance wise

fatpipe+bolt-on is looking good just need to switch accounts. i used to pay R1050 for a 4m/uncapped mweb, so budget wise im trying

to keep it as close to what i was paying. Have you had any experience with VOX uncapped?

Only recently signed up on the 20mb account. It's an office line which and I haven't really been onsite to put it through its paces as yet. I'll probably log on remotely this weekend and run some tests.

The line is sometimes a bit flaky performance wise, with a congested exchange. I find I need to run multiple download threads, using IDM download manager, to really max the 20mb line out.

Haven't used VOX uncapped no, so not able to comment. Maybe someone else can?

R1050 including line rental?

How much is line rental on a 20mb vdsl? R499?

If you don't mind juggling router settings I would go 100gb fatpipe @ R328 per month + 25gb gig4gig @R148 per month. So R476 on data and R499 line rental? R975 all in. That gives you 125gb to use during office hours and bolt-on after 6pm and all weekend!! I don't think you'll find a better internet experience in RSA, at that price... Very much doubt it...

There is an easier way to use two accounts as well. Have the capped account on the router settings for streaming and general use. Then just dial the bolt-on account with PPPOE from your PC for your downloads (which is after hours anyway). Then you never have to switch login details on your router.

Bolt on doesn't run faster than 10meg. Hence why some of us prefer not having bolt on on our fat pipe accounts because when we want speed we can switch to our fat pipe account. Once upon a time it did work on all speeds but they stopped it when they had some issues.
