Vox Telecom Fatpipe

JHB is fine so you need not worry I think.

I hope so… Think I'm going to give FP a chance and at the same time sign up for a free 1GB Axxess, Afrihost and WebAfrica accounts and see how the speeds compare

Still a worry though for my first ADSL ever

Highly doubt you will have any problems. Welcome to the world of unshaped data. No matter what you do it will be unshaped. Pretty decent deal.

Yeah it's half the reason I chose VOX in in the first place as well as FP over Uncapped - the other reason is that the data rolls over month to month

JHB might be fine but when will CT be sorted?

Well if it is congestion during peak times they would need to order more capacity from Telkom. We all know how long Telkom takes to upgrade that capacity. Look at what problems it cause Afrihost.

Only Vox would be able to confirm the above but it looks like congestion because it only happens at night from 6pm +-

I'm seriously not impressed with the fat pipe account.

Latency up and down. I get on avg 300ms ping to EU servers on WOT. Any other account gives me 160/170ms

Streaming works when it wants. Out of 10 times it will buffer 8 times.

It's not my exchange nor my line as other ISP's work fine.

Then I get this at least 2 times a day. Vox support doesn't know what that is.. Sigh

Are you in CPT?

I'm in JHB and VOX worked fine for me but recently its not so great, not sure what's wrong this morning but i could log onto the internet. not sure if its telkom or my vox account. will have to check tonight when i am home. i logged a call with vox and they basically said they cant see anything wrong, i need so send speed tests etc.

so its not all great with them either, i'm on the samsung 1TB unshapped account.

Also, DNS keeps on falling and I have to switch to googles.

Are there any other dns settings that can be used? These are the ones I get automatically:
196.22.218.248, 209.203.10.208

Meh

Tracing route to vox.co.za [209.203.27.146]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms TP-LINK.Home [192.168.1.1]
2 7 ms 9 ms 8 ms dsl-197-245-35-1.voxdsl.co.za [197.245.35.1]
3 556 ms 549 ms 547 ms 196.41.29.166
4 521 ms 421 ms 489 ms 196.41.29.233
5 956 ms 989 ms 755 ms 41.193.32.154
6 754 ms 812 ms 855 ms www.lantic.net [209.203.27.146]

Performance is definitely not on par anymore with what I'm used to. Internet feels sluggish, downloads are slow and latency high.

Maybe time to move to WebAfrica.

Yes Vox needs to come to the table and explain why they have this issue and when they are planning on upgrading the CPT IPC capacity... I think its very unfair to CPT customers on fatpipe as its advertised unshaped full speed account. Lucky JHB is not affected yet.

Also looking forward to Voxy or anyone else there to weigh in on this...pretty concerning

This was my fault. I just fixed it now.

Basically what you're seeing is a default error message on the captive portal system.

Normally what happens is when you have reached your cap, you will be redirected to a specific portal or landing page; I forgot to add this to the captive portal system, and you were forced to see a horrible default error. Sorry!

Regards,
Chris

FWIW I'm walking over to the networking department to find out what the cause, resolution, and timing may be. I'll respond as soon as I get information that I'd accept as a consumer.

Chris

Latencies

Hi all,

I just talked with networking and saw the statuses of the IPC's for both JHB and CPT.

There are no visible issue at this time...

So now I'm going to ask those who are experiencing the high latency issues to IN BOX me with specific information:

1) Your IP Address at the time of the test
2) The destination that you're having unacceptable latencies
3) If possible, a screen shot (link) to the trace route

Thanks in advance, and RIP my INBOX.

Regards,
Chris

I am guessing that you meant that DNS keeps on failing... What are you looking up that fails using those DNS servers?

Chris

Browsing. I can't reach any sites. Skype would stay connected. Mail would still work (outlook) but browsing won't. If I switch to googles DNS it works.

You mention your tech devision hasn't noticed anything unusual. Maybe ask them to monitor the network after 5pm. The high latency seems to kick in around 5 and lasts to about 9ish. Typical sign of congestion.

I will redo tests tonight if it spikes again and PM you the results.
