Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Hmm I don't know, also in Cape Town, had to switch from Vox to Webafrica a few times as twitch streaming was erratic at times, including game pings.

Hi,

I also came from AH and been on Vox now for 2 weeks. I do not use Youtube but Netflix for streaming, and have not noticed any real issues. Sometimes I can see that the quality drops, but only for a short time.

Apart from that I can stream 24/7 and have had no issues with my connection...

I stream all my TV content. This weekend was Bliss ! Had some buffering this morning at about 6am while watching the news, but it was only for about 20 to 30 minutes.... /rather happy

Thanks Guys,

I guess I had better retain my backup account for a while too, but that is the Internet in South Africa, you have to supply your own redundancy.

At least the VOX Data roles over, I am sick of discarding 100GB of unused data a month because Afrihost was down when I needed to use it.

Well I am dead happy with my FP accounts.. I used up my first one... so no problem, got another one today :)
The service I got from Vox was also something to write home about

so far my FP works like a charm!! I got a 25Gb+bolt-on late last week and setup an automated switch using the macro program "Perfect Automation"...as mentioned somewhere in MyBB a short while ago...BRILLIANT!

My 60-240 WA account is just there for backup...but I think I can cancel that now that I have bolt-on I can switch to after-hours.

No problems with Vox on 20mb ADSL2+
Would there be a noticeable difference / be worthwhile to upgrade to 20mb VDSL , or is it much the same download experience?

overheads are less on VDSL...meaning you'll get closer to 20mbps on the VDSL profile. The biggest difference you'll notice is the higher upload speed.

If you use capped data, then why not switch to 40mbps (or as close to as your line will sync)? There isn't that big a difference in price 20 vs 40mbps.

Go 40 it's cheaper.
I have 40Mb and love it except for the data that vanishes very fast when the wife watches Netflix 4K and then tells me she's too blind to see the difference.

thanks for that, my line is only rated for 20mb copper, but maybe thats just a conservative telkom estimate.
might be possible to squeeze a bit more

Check your line stats on your modem. They usually give you an estimate of maximum attainable rate. If it's far above 20mbps, 40mbps VDSL would be worth it. Mine is 23mbps, so there's no real point going from 20 to 40mbps VDSL.

FWIW... using the IP camera on the Vox FP.

Been running now for over 3 hours with not one single dropped frame.
With AH it used to lose the connection at least 2-3 times a day... YET Gian's minions still insist nothing is wrong and its my line...

Vox currently have the best product on the market, that's for bloody sure...

And in case you wondering... the calculations in the GPS receiver, work on the assumption the Earth is spherical, and also take into account its not a perfect sphere either... Had there been any doubt, I don't think GPS receivers would be a technical possibility.

Phoning 10210 isn't gonna get you anywhere...I PM'd TelkomZA (Charl) here on MyBB and he arranged the whole thing for me.

Apparently you have to be within 800m from the exchange before they will lock you into a 40mbps profile. My house is 1200m away so they gave me a "30mbps profile". I get the same upload as the 40mbps profile, which is supposed to be 3mbps (I get like 2.85-2.9), and then I get 30mbps down rate...which is still worth every penny compared to 20mbps.

Then 2 * 100 GB fatpipe accounts would be the best value for money as you will get a better experience with fatpipe at a cheaper price than 4mbps uncapped. As the unused data rolls over, you will then build up a nice reserve of data if you have a month where you might use well in excess of your usual 150 GB.

How do you sign up for Two FP accounts ? Two separate accounts ??

great idea!!!, i was preparing for a 10210 Epic, will go via Telkomza instead

One account, 2 data accounts.

So you get your account login details that lets you log onto the website and your account interface and 2 x 100g FP accounts each with their own router log in details.

While we're on the subject of streaming... Anyone have issues with Twitch.tv?

I haven't been able to stream twitch since I've been on this account from the start of the month. Everything else is 100%

Just tried it - smooth as silk at every quality level.

FWIW... got home, sat down to Youtube... set at 1080p... the buffer goes so far ahead... on AH it used to stutter all the time.
