Vox Telecom Fatpipe

Hi Chris

You are the man! When I was with Afrihost I tried to get them to show us something like this when things started to go wrong, which they refused. So thanks for showing us this and giving us some peace of mind! Just a question...do those graphs show the total traffic or only for a certain region?

Thanks again!

Our visibility into the network ranges from global interconnects down to individual subscriber protocol (layer 7). Too much? :)

So you have nothing to hide... Thanks.
This reaffirms my good decision.

Most ISPs think I am too stupid to know about those "technical details"

You are indeed the man Chris

give that man a Bell's

For those who know me they know I'm as transparent as possible where possible.

Due to competitors trolling forums I'm not going to show more than a tiny bit of our network cleavage. http://i.imgur.com/gBFU1cf.png

For those who don't know how to read the graph, that white space between the red and blue is a good thing! The dotted grey line is our warning level. We have automated warning systems when we reach X% and then there is a human review of the network with regards to what's going on, what the customer base is doing, what kind of traffic, what protocols are highest, trends, forecasts and such in order for us to be well aware of when we need to upgrade our network when needed as opposed to letting it look like Table Mountain. Keep in mind as you walk around the NetOps and MNOC areas of the business these graphs are monitored in real time as well.

Here's a view into the traffic profile for yesterday: http://i.imgur.com/SsMBMN4.png

I hope this helps understand us a bit better.

(And for my work colleagues reading this, yes it was approved first! :D)

Regards,
Chris

Hahaha, love this post!!! Everything about it excites me!!

I would be interested in seeing those graphs again mid September 1000 x 300gb accounts later!!! :p

EDIT: particularly interesting the correlation between windows 10 release and network traffic. Windows 10 is automatically downloading for a lot of people without their knowledge of it.

Other ISP's would not dream of showing this - Thank you :)

Hi Chris, any chance of checking at the routing to 185.57.188.100 for me? Tracert:

Is the connection to my Minecraft server in the UK, it's tenuous at best but there's no harm in asking for a tweak(if it's even possible)

Hi Chris (@cvanwie)

I have sent you a PM - please see if you can help me at all :)

As a matter of interest, which game are you playing?
In case you were going to ask, we play BF3 and the ping is not showing a normal profile for an unshaped connection.

It jumps from 30 to 80 then 180 and back down again. I couldn't hit anything I aimed at as a result.

I switched to another ISP and it settled very well. Pretty clear something is not prioritised here.

Thanks for reminding me about this! Changes applied, let me know how your ping is tonight?

?
Nice response.

I'm here because I have 3x100Gb fat pipe accounts that perform 100% all day.
I wasn't even talking to you so why did you respond like this?

Should I tell you to stfu?

telling someone that 99% of people dont have an issue and that it must be you is not helpful.

the bottom line is that there IS an issue, whether it is accepted or not is largely irrelevant.

I never said the issue was his, I merely said 99% of us don't have issues.
What is so wrong with my statement?

I don't play BF3 but D3 (especially if you play DH) is also susceptible to erratic gameplay under such conditions.

That said:

a. I haven't played D3 for a while so I don't know if its currently an issue on my line
b. When I was playing a few months ago, it was fine
c. I had problems about a year back, but see b. above.

Good luck - maybe chris can check if there there is something special in the way BF3 traffic is routed.

What do you aim to achieve by telling us that 99% of people (whom you somehow represent) are not having a problem? You just irritate those who are having difficulty by your silly absence of logic. And if you have 3 accounts, you are not a typical user either - likely a business.

guys if a simple ping is showing erratic behavior you can bet your bottom dollar that it is going to impact your QoS within games. I dont see how every game needs to be prioritized on the network, that makes little to no sense. Unless of course it's using p2p for traffic... but this is an unshaped connection so it still shouldn't matter???

I play Heroes of Newerth (Dota like game) so I can see IMMEDIATELY when the ping is off. Aside from the fact that I keep multiple ping windows and a network monitor open on my 2nd screen

Then why are you here? STFU

Why are you okes fighting?

Chris is here trying to help.

This is (despite what we wish), helluva complex stuff - there are so many factors affecting each individuals experience that without careful analysis and lots and lots of input data, that you can't easily pinpoint a problem.

Keep it civil peeps - we don't need the thread derailed by needless sniping.

Nope, personal use at home.
Not a business at all.
Did you notice I was not the only one that said something?
But please, continue to berate me for ****s n giggles.

If 99% of the feedback is positive then is it wrong of me to mention it?
