Vox Telecom Fatpipe

No complaints from me.. had a grand old time last night, watching TV until 12:00
No buffering, not once.

Also downloaded a Linux ISO image.. and updated my gfx drivers LOL.... full line speed.

Running the VPN full tilt today too :)

Please VOX, just don't change anything.

Streaming hulu fine the whole time then all of a sudden boom, buffering from 8:30pm. been noticing this for a while now. Busy doing trace routes. will be logging a call with VOX.

I've noticed a drop in Vox's quality too. Pings become very unstable from 7/8pm, I know because I got the account to game on and that's the time I do.

Altogether the experience has degraded recently because I think alot of people have jumped ship from the Afrihost/Axxess mess to Vox. WebAfrica and Mweb pings are still stable, but don't really want to go back to either of those monsters.

Guys this is something that I picked up, when was it, last week? I put it down to the various connections I had open on the line. While the line was not entirely inactive, I was not downloading anything at the time.

This is what I can tell you. I have Pingplotter installed now, so I can see EXACTLY what is going on and I have come to this conclusion. The route that Vox uses to my test IP is a lot more sensitive to traffic (it would appear) than that of another ISP which is IS based. The route is vastly different.

Something very specific that I have noticed. I can be on Vox with the line on idle (no downloads) and the ping is a bit all over the plane. I then connect my pass-through PPPoE connection and BOOM the ping goes from a bit wobbly to an absolute straight line.

I have all the graphs saved to back it up.

While still signed onto VOX? How do you do that, Forgive me if you think it's a silly question.

My primary connection is on my router, to Vox. To enable what I do you need to allow PPPoE pass-through connections, which essentially means that you can create another broadband connection on top of the primary one. This secondary connection is created and managed from within Windows.

Open that connection (to another ISP) and it creates a new connection just for the PC you opened it on. So my PC will be on the IS network for the duration of my gaming session and the rest of the house is still on the Vox connection.

I use this every night. I have 5GB of premium unshaped data which I activate when I play games. Vox isnt quite up to my standards in terms of routing and latency. For everything else, it works like a bomb.

Surely they cannot just prioritize video streaming and pretty much put everything else at the bottom of the list. I stream video occasionally, but I spent a lot more time on the PS4 for online gaming.

My speed tests and tracert did not show any issues, all acceptable values but streaming was poor.

I've been with fox for more than a year now and these issue do pop up from time to time.

We can only hope the influx of customers are properly managed. .

Tried the my PS4 on a WebAfrica adsl account and I got the same result. I guess the problem is not with Vox then.

Edit: Moved PS4 10cm higher from original location. Getting slightly better wifi signal, problem solved. Strange, this was never a problem.

You were on wifi all this time?

Started working at 18:00 on the dot. Looks like I am capped even though the portal says I have 7 gigs left.

So the 300GB accounts are performing well? I want to buy one or two of these accounts for all my data.

Mine are working very well. Downloads at line speed all day, streaming is great other than Twitch (seems to be a twitch issue though) and gaming is good (don't see much difference here over my Mweb Premium account).

All in all its working very will for me in JHB.

Weekends is bolt-on time for me!!! :D

Consistently good for me, on a par with Fatpipe on my 10mb line...
