Vox Telecom Fatpipe

This is exactly what happens when ISP offers massive specials to gain lots of members and then chokes up as a result, Afrihost and Webafrica both did it in the past and now Vox.

Yip, and I've been through ALL of those ISP's through their problem periods it seems... fack me I have the worst luck. It always seems the day I join an ISP the sh*t starts to hit the fan.

BTW, @Voxie, I'm still waiting for someone to contact me about why I can't hit anything over 480p while streaming Netflix on a 10mb line. If it's not sorted out by the 20th I'm jumping ship again to another, less popular ISP that's not having any specials, so I can actually avoid an ISP overselling themselves....

But they should have contingency in place and prepare for massive uptake on good deals.

Exactly but who ever has in the past ? Webafrica if I recall correctly, stated in the past that they had to motivate for higher ups to get extra capacity and to get that extra capacity takes months.

I'm not saying that this is the same issue but extra cost and ISP's are a business after all and business's want profit, maybe Vox will lose enough customers to let their network settle but retain enough to have made it worth screwing other people over.

I have tried vox fatpipe, I disliked it and cancelled but this is a trend with ISP's in south africa.

EDIT:
@ UnholyMunk

Yeah I am rarely with a ISP for more than 2-3 months at a time since that's how long it takes for good performance to go bad, I am tempted to try telkom capped but no idea how they perform. MWEB would be better but what I want falls in their promotional period and well, stuff that.

Yet in another thread, MickeyD claims that there is a glut of extra capacity should they want to buy it.

@cvanwie Can you keep us updated on what is the situation, with regards to the after 4pm slowdown / shutdown

Thx

1) Should they want to buy it
2) How long would it take
3) Which ISP hasn't said they could get extra capacity but just bear with them while its implemented ?

To deny being able to improve is to shoot yourself in the foot, what would you do if you heard a ISP say "Sorry cant get extra capacity"

Hell NO!!! I ditched MWEB for VOX, and even as it stands now with all the issues, VOX is still better.

Should've worded it "Preferred Choice" but after some checking up it seems that neither Telkom nor MWeb will be options.

Thank's for saving me the trouble of checking up MWeb :)

Now if I could just find a large cap cybersmart account...

Really strange how services vary so much. Muizenberg 20MpsADSL2+
I had to reconnect a few times before I got a decent connection

AVR , the speed is not the issue , I can still manage ~36mb/s during the peak period , its the latency thats making my internet experience terrible.

What was your latency like during this test?

It's weird for me reading that there are guys with issues on VOX (specifically in Cape area)...as I'm in the Northern Suburbs and haven't had a single issue with them yet.

Hope you guys get sorted out soonest!!

What were your findings?

So basically the ISP's I have tried over time are

1) Axxess (Uncapped 4mbit, Capped 20mbit) - Currently Using MTN so no go but they are moving to new network this month
2) Afrihost (Uncapped Business 4mbit, Capped 20mbit) - Afrigreen was fine but over last few days sucked but they also doing network change
3) Webafrica (Uncapped 4mbit, Capped 20mbit) - Uncapped I didnt like rolling at the time and capped I found performance degrading
4) Crystalweb (Capped 20mbit) - Great at the beginning but also found performance going down
5) Openweb (Uncapped 4mbit) - Was fine when was just reselling IS accounts but left when they were swapping accounts every second day
6) MWeb (Uncapped 4mbit) - This was first uncapped account, when they ran out of capacity the first time jumped ship and never went back
7) Vox (Fatpipe 20mbit) - Always been very slow during the day and on par with other ISP's at night so wasnt worth the price, seems worse now,
8) XDSL (Business Uncapped 4mbit) - This performs amazingly but the specific account is a value add option to a business fiber offering.

I'm going to see how Afrihost performs over the next few days, if things dont come right I am probably going to put an eye to cybersmart unless anyone can reccomend anything else.

Ever considered the issue resides with Telkom and your line?

I don't recall MWEB ever running out of capacity. I recall them kicking the abusers off to prevent running out of capacity and preserve the network for others, which is still the case today.

Good luck.

It was a couple of years ago, the December of the year they released home uncapped, the first actual affordable uncapped in south africa, at least for durban the throttling went really extra, 25% speed for Usenet and such. They upgraded a few months later.

Wont rule that out at all.

You said in another thread you think your WiFi isn't so hot, so you can try plugging in with ethernet, rebooting your router and then grabbing the torrent download of Ubuntu, then you have eliminated all the weak spots, if that doesn't give full speed you escalate it further.
