Vox Telecom uncapped ADSL: Undercuts MWEB!

@ Valis, yeah hi m8, I remember you from UT also and yeah, getting on a bit now, retired in April 2008 and am enjoying it, sitting in my rocking chair and watching the world go by

LOL, nice. Is that rocking chair in front of the PC by any chance? :)

This is from the VOX Product description sent to dealers:

5 Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is it really Uncapped?
Yes it is. Unlimited data, all the time. This is subject to our acceptable use guidelines and terms and conditions for promotional period.
2) What is the Data Cap?
There is no data cap
3) Is it a shaped or unshaped service?
Shaped Service
4) So where is the catch?
No concurrent sessions. This means you can only log into your ADSL account from one location at a time.

Not so good then.

Maybe it's not the same product? Perhaps @lantic is shaped and the vox/datapro branded one isn't. I know lantic is supposed to be their "consumer" arm - so more for home users, I guess. Whereas vox/datapro would be for business users/power users, maybe?

Ok update on the DataPro / @lantic thing:

DataPro apologized this morning for giving out incorrect details about their package. Miscommunication between JHB / Durban / Sales Reps / Assistants.

Both 4096 uncapped packages (for R889) from both Vox companies include the ADSL line portion.

My account manager from Datapro said the business packages are not available yet. Mweb's are, and MWeb is 'upgrading' my old 1meg uncapped to 4meg at the cheaper rate. My MWeb account manager also told me their accounts are only fibre back-bone SEACOM. Also, watch out for Vox's auto-rollover terms on their business contracts!

Who does every body think will end up to be the cheapest? I vote telkom. they should just stop being greedy and finish their projects

hi guys,

talk about vox datapro's uncapped option.
i have recently joined this uncapped option and it is heavily shaped

i have a 4mb/1mb line, after switch over our download speed from overseas site approx around 5k/sec
and local site 30-50k/sec its totally not worth it.

downloading over BT or viewing media is impossible

its just simply not worth it

I'm a bit lost, we have a 3GB account at @lant that cost 220, did it automatically get upgraded? I can't see my current usage any more

The company my wife works for uses DataPro for ADSL via Telkom. 4Meg line, as per both Telkom & DataPro invoice. However, download speeds sit at 19KB/Sec. I have been trying to encourage DataPro & or Telkom to things right.

DataPro have also not answered my question whether the account is throttled or shaped - it's a 50GB capped account (50GB cap is never used up). Surely a capped account should be less likely to be shaped or throttled?

Is this slow (like I think) or acceptable? They are paying including Telkom costs just shy of R3k per month for 6 PC's to access internet.

The company I work for uses MWEB Business 4Meg line and we get download rates of 300KB/Sec. I don't know how much we pay though.

So, not to waste anyone's time, but does anyone think that DataPro in this scenario is offering a good service? Or should my wife's employer leave DataPro for MWEB?
