Believe me SA would probably have been in a worse telecoms situation that it is now if Telkom had NOT been privatized.

You have a point there! I'm imagining they would be the telecoms equivalent of Eskom if the government still owned 100% of Telkom

Openweb Rocks!

Dunno dude... OpenWeb still seem a bit dodgy to me. With "Keoma Wright, Founder" it seems like a one man band. The oke does seem to have some pull with IS though...

Keoma has done so much for broadband users locally its just not funny, he is always trying to save us a buck here and there. When I have an issue with my account he resolves it personally. He is just that good, don't knock it until you have tried it. This latest partnering with Mweb just shows how innovative and dedicated this dude is.

Well done Keoma. Openweb ROCKS!!!:D

nice. When screamer and digichilli came out its was cool but this is just incredible. +-R550 for a 4mb uncapped account vs R2499 that screamer were charging. NICE!!

It they survive this it will be a miracle

Well i must say joined mweb...and their news server is fantastic!!!! full speed!
no subsciption, just saved me another R100!
what a week!

enough of the bigging up openweb they have the worst support ever

What I find interesting is that all this "Revolution" is happening "just before" the 2010 which draws attention to the pathetic interent structures we have here in SA... We might not win the 2010, but we will WIN in 2010... so far

Vox contracts

Watch out for these guys' fine print. Most of their contracts roll over into another set period without any notification, tying the customer into another 12 / 24 month contract. Always read the fine print!

Great news for the SME, But I not need an all inclusive account! It's great to know the insights about Telkom and Icasa!

We definitely need to petition ICASA to free the local loop.

Now I understand why Telkom is so keen on slashing their price offerings; I could loose all its customers for all it cares and still all the other ISPs will pay R152 for the rental line!

Damn you Telkom!!!

Damn you Telkom!!!

If telkom were allowed to, they could kill off all the small isp's by dropping prices so low through cross-subsidization of wholesale and retail products that the rest would not match and sustain.

Well this is a PR piece. And of course the old drum every likes to beat:

.

This argument is total nonsense. Telkom was original funded by tax payers, but during privatization the government actually SOLD the asset and received money for it. This money essentially went back to the tax payer. So you can maybe argue that the government has not sold Telkom for enough, but legally Telkom has ZERO obligation NOW. The landlines are assets of the entity known as Telkom... which frankly has nothing to do with the taxpayers. Example: I would love for SAA to be privatized ... but then to go on ten years after the fact that the prices of seats are too high because the tax payer original sponsored it is absolute nonsense. Believe me SA would probably have been in a worse telecoms situation that it is now if Telkom had NOT been privatized.

I agree, we would have been in a far worse situation. Just like every other government organisation.

will they allow multiple concurrent connections??

Why would they?
Why should they?

Lets say you have a restaurant that sells ribs in portions of 1kg for R100.
Lets say the restaurant has no problem a few people sharing the 1kg

Now say the deal is an "All you can eat" portion of ribs for R100.

Do you really think they will let 4 people all eat as much as they like?

biscuit you just made nonsensical analogy, you biscuit.

R899 for 4mb uncapped? get another line, concurrency issues solved.

Congratulations and well done to all at Vox! :D

You are officially the cheapest uncapped in SA...

You have been at the forefront of the drive to lower prices all along.

With Vox and Afrihost immediately stepping up, to drop uncapped prices in line with the MWEB announcement, the war is well on it's way. ;)

Think you may be missing my point.

With AHs 50+50 deal you could have multiple connections on separate lines sharing the same ISP account.
i.e. they were splitting up the 100G usage between them (like the ribs)
That AH and others allow this makes sense because the various usages were totalled.
It dodn't hurt the ISP because they charged per unit of usage.

Some people asked whether they would let multiple connections share an UNLIMITED account.
Obviously this wont be allowed because that would hurt the ISP.

So the analogy is fine. You have misunderstood what I was saying (or did I express myself badly?)
