Wait a minute…

Alan Knott-Craig is asking for asymmetric interconnect rates because Cell C is smaller than their competitors, but is this not hypocritical?

To be fair, even if Cell C had a long time to compete, they need to be considered a new entrant since the interconnect rates were raised so much when they came into the market....

Vodacom and MTN need to be dragged before the competition commission for the interconnect increase they had back then.

Are you not being naive? At Vodacom his mandate was to advance the interests of the Vodacom shareholder. Now he is at Cell C and he is doing the same except he is advancing the interests of the Cell C shareholder. Simples.

He is inherently dishonest, he is not a champion of the people like he has made himself out to be at Cell C, he does whatever it takes to get the biggest bonus.

The guy does his job at whatever company he is at any point in time. Just like us all.

So hypocritical...why not offer free voice and data while you're at it!

Love him or hate him the man is good at his job or trying to be now that he's head honcho at Cell C. If I was an investor/shareholder he's the go to guy.

Cell C should have have had asymmetric rates when they started but the contracts were left up to the operators. It's going to affect everybody more now because Cell C has a much larger customer base. Asymmetric rates should be a consideration based on market share and not how long an operator has been in the market. Yes AKC was part of the contract process but if the shareholders were against it they should have said no this is going to come back to bite us. At the time they were all happy with it though and he was simply doing his job. Karma is a *****.

This will drive competition in the market regardless of AKC's motive. That in itself is a win for SA. I think too many of us focus on the negativity around AKC rather than the positives this brings to Cell C and ultimately the SA consumer. VC is busy trying to buy Neotel to further monopolize the market (spectrum, fibre footprint, SNO-license) and MTN is riddled in dubious financial dealings, unethical business behavior and have yet again suspended another executive for suspected fraud... Interesting times nonetheless.
