!!!WARNING: This is a Rant!!! JVC Smart Android TVs

Scuzi? I think you have never experienced an LG before....

^^^

I think the Samsung and LG Smart TVs rock actually - I'd take them over pretty much any box out there.

If you don't have one of those TVs, and you want to pay a 'normal' price for an Android TV box, you have the below - all Netflix and Google certified :

Xiaomi Mi S
Ematic AGT419
Telkom LIT

A more expensive option is to add Apple TV to that list .... and even more expensive than that, add Nvidea.

But I suspect the Smart TVs can do more than any device

Telefunken and JVC all come from NuWorld..... One of my suppliers, not the best screens in the world.... I had a telefunken from them...... next will be Samsung or LG, the rest can GFT.

I am in the market for a 43" smart TV for my bedroom.

Would something like a Samsung RU7100 support Dstv Now , Showmax,Netflix and Youtube out of the box?

Rather get a media box externally from the TV.

Yes it does. Bought mine two or three weeks ago and everything works fine.

Yes. And you can also use the Samsung smartview app to cast from your phone.

I'd disagree with this, based on the brand / model TV he wants to buy.

Tizen (Samsung) and WebOS (LG) offer - in my opinion - more than an Android box. The navigation system just feels quicker and easier /more intuitive. Everything is more simple when it comes to navigation and less fiddly too. No additional ports or sources are needed, plus you have an 'instant on' Smart TV.

It offers pretty much what you need (Netflix / DSTV Now / Showmax / YouTube / Plex / Steam / Amazon / Google Movies/ Plex) , and the latest Samsung versions have iTunes included as well.

I'd agree with you if he had an older TV, a different brand TV or he needed to specifically be able to side-load and workaround on certain certain apps

Two problems:
  • JVC
  • Game

I learnt this the hard way - bought a 32" JVC TV on special for R3299... 2 years later, that TV broke... Never ever buying another TV from that place. Had my Hisense TV for 3 years now it still works like a charm.

Just saying that sometimes doesn't get updated, but than again so could a media box.

All decent brand TV's have continual updates on their smart TV's. Our 7 year old Samsung (E something series) TV at work still receives updates and runs YouTube and Netflix flawlessly.

Modern WebOS and Tizen found on LG and Samsung TV's beat the best Android boxes with their superior features and integration.

There is no need to buy a media box unless your TV is very old, or cheap and nasty with crap smart support.

Waste of money if the smart TV has all the certified apps already. My LG's smart functionality exceeds that of the Mi Box and the likes.
I also have a Lg smart tv & it is slow as **** compared to the Mi Box. I cant go back to using the tv's Operating system, it is too slow & restrictive.

I disagree. The LG that I have isnt super old but it is kinda a budget model. It was about R5500 at the time & navigating webos with the remote is annoying vs the mi box.

Does anyone know if Panasonic is rebranded crap or is it genuinely Panasonic?

Isn't super old, and a budget model?

Well there's your problem. It's old and a budget model. What do you expect?
