We have solved our network problems: Cell C CEO

I can't tell you now where, but I can remind you what.
JvZ wrote in context of network disruptions by Vodacom that they were aware that Cell C roaming agreement with Vodacom was defective, but it was not their problem, they just complied with the agreement.

I wrote already on the forum explanation for a typical problem "Full signal - no data throughput" which was observed in areas with strong Vodacom signal.

Here it is:
Some Vodacom towers allowed registering Cell C users to their 3G services. I think it was in purpose to off-load their 2G voice traffic and convey it using 3G CS services, but it was very selfish approach, as there was no roaming aggreement for Vodacom 3G PS services (data) and modem firmware was confused by being able to register to the Vodacom 3G tower, but subsequently was unable to open data channels. JvZ arrogant reply was giving me a clue that it could be even made deliberately, so started investigate it using AT commands. When I received modem which reported back active freqquency channels, I discovered that modem was locked to the Vodacom frequency band, but was still reporting Cell C Cell ID as an active cell. It was evident to me that modem was in the process of handover, but didn't complete this process being stuck in this stage. For the user the modem was still indicating connection to Cell C network, but in fact it was already hanging on the Vodacom tower which didn't give any throughput.

Fact of allowing to register to Vodacom 3G tower has been confirmed by many users. JvZ was aware that such practice could disrupt Cell C network, but didn't give explanation why they allowed to do it.

Easy to blame Vodacom for their k@k network. 3G agreement with Vodacom was June last year. The 3G issues with Cell C has been coming for a long time. And when I was on Cell C my full signal no throughput was exclusive to the Cell C network. I would have to roam on Vodacom 2G to use WhatsApp etc.

You didn't understand my post. For you it was indication of connecting to Cell C tower (my post explain why), it is why you had been fooled that it was exclusive to the Cell C network.

With 3G roaming agreement Vodacom towers do not disturb Cell C network anymore. There is no agreement on LTE, but LTE network do not carry voice traffic (at least not many phones can use it), so in the present situation Vodacom will not be able to sabotage Cell C network without facing legal consequences.

If that was the case, then Cell C should have resolved it with Vodacom. At the end of the day, it is their sim, their network, their responsibility. Dont blame Vodacom for bad experiences on your network. If Cell C had a legitimate complaint regarding Vodacom allowing a device with a cell c sim to register on their 3G network but not provide throughput, then Cell C should have taken that up with Vodacom or relevant regulatory body.

JvZ wrote arrogantly that roaming agreement with Cell C was defective. Cell C could not claim for damages if the agreement is defective.

With new agreement I am sure that Vodacom will not be able to sabotage Cell C network, it would cost them a fortune, also a possibility of losing ICASA licence. It is when CEO says "We fixed our network" I believe it is true.

ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. Messages left by missed callers can take hours to come up on my phone. ditto for SMS's sent tome.

I have seen more than enough peeps complaining of the same issues still. You believe him if you want. I certainly wont. Besides, appart from network, last time I was on Cell C site a month or two ago, I did not see any packages that made them stand out from the others. Afrihost new voice packages are interesting. Will be between them and Vodacom when my Telkom contract is done.

You did advertise such a move in other +/-20 messages in various places. You are in a business relations with Vodacom, so your personal contracts with them are cheaper (a dealer provision paid back). People who read this will understand, I am sure. ;)

And I have told you before that I pay for my own contract. I am a normal consumer as the rest of you. I dont get freebies.

When they upgraded their network to HSPA+, it was sabotaged by their roaming partner - just to punish them for pulling prices down. They claim that their problems are gone, they have right to do it. Without Cell C you would still pay R1/MB, you seem to forgotten this.

They were certainly a catalyst to bringing down the pricing of mobile data, but it didn't help that they did it to draw in subscribers to a network that had no 3G or HSPA infrastructure of their own. "Price is not a strategy," as AKC said when he was CEO, yet Cell C tried to use pricing to compete against the big guns who have better infrastructure. They wanted to be the cheapest provider, and they did so quite well, but their network quality still isn't as good as the other providers.

They only started building their own LTE network last year, in September. I still don't have Cell C LTE in Jeffreys Bay, but I have seen Vodacom and MTN's LTE network go live locally.

Shhhh, keep quiet on that... it doesn't suit his little tirade.

No friebies, but it costs you cheaper due to the dealer provision which comes back to your pocket.

Really?

I haven't noticed any change, the network is still shyte.

Opposite for me - never even realised there were problems. Been running so smooth for so long - in 3 years never had to log a single support call.

Vodacom and MTN, well that was a different story.

The moral of this story is, that each network has strong areas and bad areas.. for me Vodacom has by far and away the best signal/network in my area.

It's not just network coverage though. Vodacom was mostly them trying to tell me that an unused data simcard was using data and sending sms' to my own other simcard. And I lived in 3 different, well-populated areas with my Vodacom sim and it still had more issues than I've ever had with Cell C, no matter where I used it.

My wife's MTN sim is never usable on data, just struggles. No matter where.

Everytime I have roamed on MTN with Telkom sim I have found them to be pretty good. Voice and data. Now my phone is pretty much always on Telkom 4G. Issue with that is however if I get a call on my phone while on 4G at home, it does not always switch to MTN 3G to connect the call.

This is MTN roaming on Telkom sim. Dont know why upload is sucky.

The worst accounting system, dated from EDGE era and never updated. Any delays of accounting combined with a thousands times increased speed results with OOB and there is no option to opt out. Poor overloaded accounting affects everybody, it is not related to the area.

Dude, I honestly don't know what high horse you are on but you need to get off it..
