I was more thinking more along the lines of "normal" corruption, which is rife now.

And the arms deals have appeared to be a money machine for some again - which shouldn't have happened, considering that there was no secrecy required this time.

You will have to educate us on the various forms of corruption - "normal" and "abnormal" :rolleyes:

Stop making excuses for the pre-1994 govt, they were as bad as any other govt.

Mr R13 sometimes get's passionate and people accuse him of being a ANC supporter. He does not always back up his statements so they get to flame him.
I forgot about the farms.

I think the Elite/corrupt in those days were a smaller group( to keep it secret and not to be caught out). These days any deputy orange peel collector in a government sector has access to funds to walk off with ( and there is no shame or punishment for being caught. If you understand what I mean.

I do think corruption is worse with the new government.

Oh, so it's OK for the ANC to be really corrupt ?

I can't speak for senior government levels in the past, it seems to have been worse than I thought, but low level corruption is, in my experience, much worse now than at any time in the past - now talking about cops, municipal officials, home affairs, etc, etc.

This ruling culture of entitlement is a major inducement to unbridled corruption !

Well, yes, it's rather tricky to try and convince a cop to just give you a warning and all he wants is cash. You also hear a lot of stories from friend and colleagues.

I've also experienced severe intimidation from cops regarding a burglary, where I was forced to drop the theft charges out of fear for my life - to this day I believe that some of their family members were involved - this was in a small community. The problem was that I had too much evidence - the burglars took photos / video of themselves with a camera that was recovered after I posted a reward sign at the local SPAR.

Zuma is corrupt - still the ANC chose him to lead. This proves that the ANC is inherently corrupt and don't plan on changing.

Well that just pisses me off no end. Instead of the police finding the criminals they intimidate you to the point that you fear for your life. WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!!!!?!

Why is this allowed?

Anyway, I would rather forget about the R25 000 in unrecovered stolen goods than pick up **** with the police, even though the stuff was not covered by insurance.

Grossly Incompetent: No

Steal money off the top like governments the world over, but do so AFTER service delivery is in place.
 
Any abuse of power provides the elite in the public and private sectors with a unique opportunity to line their greedy pockets. A closed society which is highly militarised under dictatorial rule will always result in grand scale corruption hidden from public view by design. I saw this in the Ciskei government rule under Lennox Sebe and Sebe was corrupt with the SA government. There's no doubt SA Government was corrupt long before home land system.

The issue of grand corruption under apartheid has never been a public issue/debate. The ANC has equally learned very well how to use power to subsidies criminal elites within public and private sector. And they do this under the premise of democracy. They flaunt it stupidly for everyone to see.

I haven't heard of any reports to the contrary. Maybe someone that RSG/T chap could shed some light on what the most effective way to report poor police work is.

well one thing that the old police force could do was spell properly. Today these deputies helping you file a case would give any Afrikaans or English teacher a heart attack.

Not quite...I had a car radio swiped in 1980, and the Norwood cop came around to take a statement...after 45 minutes of battling to get him to write my statement, I offered to take over, saying that I would have battled as well, if I had had to take a statement in Afrikaans..." No...don't worry", he said," I AM English speaking..."
