1. If my father abused me, and I abuse my own children, is it a good enough excuse to say: "He did it, so I inherited it from him" ???

Should one not strive to be better? Once you realise something is wrong, should you not refrain from doing it ?

2. Since when did white people it " entrench ... in our society as a whole including among the oppressed the deep-seated understanding that personal wealth constituted the only true measure of individual and social success." ??? I hate when one person speaks on behalf of entire group !
 
Oh man, this is rich.

The ANC may have inherited infrastructure, problems and responsibility from the Apartheid regime but they were supposed to have replaced their values and principles or wtf was the point of the struggle?

They have destroyed any credibility they may have had with this statement. How are they supposed to uplift the people of this country if they are themselves, by their own admission, not capable of overcoming victimhood?
 
There is nothing wrong with the pursuit of wealth or the acquisition of wealth. What he fails to explain is how we went from that value system to the present corrupt one.

Another epic ANC fail.... it floors me that anyone in their right mind would try and defend these criminals.

Waited? Waited?! Didn't have to wait too long, did we? They've been doing it since the corruption burst through the seams (ie. bloody ages ago).

I am pretty sure that you are correct. This came up either last year or earlier this year, so methinks the OP is tyrying to revive a dead fish.

That being said, Manteshe is an idiot for saying it in the first place.

What is inherited is easily improved, and if you inherit a corrupt system and then turn it into a work of art, don't cry about it!

I would love for you to back that statement up with some facts....

Ive lived through both the apartheid goverment and the ANC. In my life, I have never seen such blatant corruption, cronyism and favoritism as I have in the last 10 years. The apartheid goverment might have ensured that jobs went to their afrikaner brothers, but people back then went into government to actually *gasp* serve their country. The ANC officials go into politics to become influential and fill their pockets. They have not an ounce of sympathy for the suffering masses. Im not even talking about ministers, it seems that every official with the slightest hint of authority or position with responsibility drives a car worth almost a million Rand, when their annual salaries are no where close to that. And those are examples of what we can see... we don't see where he lives or what he splurges tax payers money on. Every now and then we get a hint from the press... but that will be stopped soon enough when they shut down media freedom.

I hate blanket statements such as "all politicians are corrupt" or "other countries have corruption too" or my favorite: "the apartheid gov was just as corrupt". In reality, it doesn't even come anywhere near the level of corruption under the ANC rule. This ANC and government is rotten to the core...
 
Wow this just leaves me feeling very sad, really. I mean, what should be said is how the ANC is trying to curb corruption, not make excuses for it.

What country was that?? It sure was not SA!

In the "old" civil service, people took jobs because it was easy .... not much to do, not many responsibilities, if you stayed in the service long enough and waited for the guy in the position above you to die, you were 99% likely to get his job. People all aimed to become directors in the civil service and to retire with their health intact (due to not doing too much) and a fat pension to boot.

They were pathetic and they could not care less about serving their country !

The article might be old(ish).
It highlights how the ANC changed from freedom fighter to oppressor in these few short years.
 
Unfortunately I do not remember the title, but there is a book about how none, or very few, governments who came into power by way of revolution, stay in existence for much longer than 15 years.

mmmm.... Tell me, is that why the police system, judicial system, healthcare, home affairs, traffic department....etc all worked so well? Cause people "didnt have much responsibility", or "not doing too much". Granted, a few departments only catered for a minority of the population, but most dealt with the entire populous.

Compared to today where things are so efficient... waiting 3 months for an ID book renewal and 4 months for a drivers license appointment. Having to deal with any government department is so much fun!
