At least under the previous dispensation... if you were caught stealing from the government you were arrested and put away for a few years.

Today they make you a Cabinet Minister.

Well said. I think we all understand that it happens everywhere in the world - the difference, as you pointed out, is that here shoulders are shrugged and it is ignored. Unfortunately that is the result of a de facto one-party state - no accountability to the voters.

Roelf Meyer, he was a little boy at the time Ramapoga walked circles around him. Pik Botha was an alcoholic to the extend where he beat his wife, and said she fell of the stairs in his drunken state he gave away SWA/Walvis Bay. By no means am I against what de Klerk did, but how he went about it is a whole different story. He should take responsibility for a lot of things that are wrong today.

Yes, knew he was an alchie. SWA is fine, Walvis on the other hand was not part of the previous german colony but run from SA dating back to the 1800 when the english had it as part of the cape colony and was part of the Union of SA. It should never have been handed back to Namibia regardless of UN resolutions, if the UK can keep the Falklands then why not other nations.

Hehe, I was watching a documentary (on Mzansi channel nogals) about 3 weeks ago about the events leading up to Mandelas release etc. PW Botha started the whole thing, De Klerk had other ideas but he knows how to play politics and stabbed PW in the back with a long knife. The dude (can't remember his name) that did most of the talking with Mandela (& some other activists) and Pik Botha had nothing good to say about De Klerk. He is not the saviour he has made himself out to be, just a conniving politician basking in the glory.

Either FW had the balls and PW didn't... or
FW rushed things and PW wanted to cover all aspects...

I for one think it was rushed... but it had to go none-the-less

I wonder what we will be saying about Mandela, MBeki and Zuma in a few years time

:D

None of the rules "above"... apply to the UK or USA ;)

or maybe they realized their pockets wouldn't be filled because they had no more communism to blame their mistakes on, hence FW wanted to get a good pension fund, screwed his own people over in the process and is now enjoying retirement terwyl ons sy kastaiins uit die vuur moet uitkrap. And he got a nobal price on the way... hmmm

well they could have offered to bring SWA into the New SA and accepted a 4th black parlaiment, but its all just speculation now, I have to get a bloody passport if I want to visit Ovamboland nowadays :(

I agree during the Nats time there was Corruption but they left something in the pot. This bunch of moron's in power now clean the pot out.
That is the difference also last Government had no accountability only to the White Voter this bunch act like they only have Accountability to the ANC who act like the four monkey's when it comes to rank and file members.
1\See no evil
2\Speak no evil
3\Hear no evil
4\Do no evil

not really, but to be honest with you I would rather vote for Malema than for a VF+ and all the pro nats currently, at least I know where I am with Malema, and unlike (I'm making an assumption here), I lived through the 80, national service, and the indoctrination of the nats, I know what I am talking about.

I lived through the 80, national service, and the indoctrination of the nats, and I also know what I am talking about... but I know a fool when I see one... I'd rather take my chances with the unknown ;)

If that is so... then point out specific examples Mr Mantashe... Please....

It's much easier to generalise and play to the 'masses'. They then deflect all blame on the premise that they did not start it and that it's not their fault. When confronted they will blubber away with the usual rhetoric BS.

Mantashe and company have authority but zero vision... They are bogged down in the wilds of their worst fears. It is sad, because the white gevaar has long gone...

Echel Rhodie together with FW he helped fund projects involving over 75 miljoen projects for self enrichment
Louwrens Muller
The information scandel :)
and the rest of The broederbonders

show me any politician that isn't corrupt, one thing the Nats did better than the ANC though is maintaining our infrastructure.

Eschel Rhoodie
When this misappropriation of state funds came to light, Rhoodie fled to Ecuador. By this time he was South Africa's Most Wanted Man and the government had instituted legal proceedings against him. In March 1979, Rhoodie moved to Great Britain where he attempted, unsuccessfully, to gain political asylum. In a BBC television interview with David Dimbleby on March 21, 1979, he strongly denied the accusations made against him, reiterating his claim that he was being made a scapegoat for the whole affair, and maintained that senior government figures, including the then Prime Minister, P.W. Botha, were both aware of and sanctioned the secret projects he had conducted as head of the Department of Information.
Shortly afterwards, Rhoodie moved to France, where he was eventually arrested by the French authorities and incarcerated for 88 days pending extradition to South Africa.
By 1979 Rhoodie was found guilty of fraud and sentenced to 12 years in prison. The sentence was later reversed by the appeals court in Bloemfontein. Rhoodie and his wife Katie left for the United States of America in 1982. His book The Real Information Scandal, which was published in October 1983, contained sweeping allegations of big-name involvement in secret information projects, involving military alliances with Israel and the election of Ronald Reagan as US President.
Eschel Rhoodie then moved to the United States where he worked in advertising. He lived there until his death on 17 July 1993.

Eschel Rhoodie

in 1988 at the height of sanctions R4 billion was released for public servants and pension funds in order to buy the loyalty of the NP, guess what , if you weren't a broederbonders you didn't get any. I am convinced Rhodie's appeal was succesful due to the political side involved (very similar to Shabir Shaik)

A poll whaddya know. Should have an age restriction that poll, most of us didn't live during the Nats' rule.

Eschel Rhoodie was not around in 1988...

just another example :), Rhodie left the country after his appeal. But he even admitted later after the fall of apartheid of his involvement with the nats, I probably stated that badly in that quote.

the politics haven't changed over the past 30 years, they just added a bit of extra colour to it nowadays.
