Wo knows if this is crap or not

All I know is
a) Apples results are due out in about 10 days. Apple report a fair amount of detail in their results (unlike Samsung) so we will know the numbers

b) The shortages dont align with the rumours but lets wait for the figures

Why? The SIII has sold 40 million units in 7 months. To put that into perspective, it took the SII 20 months to accomplish the same number, and is an average of close to 190,000 units per day. I don't think that existing SIII owners would appreciate the short lifespan of their product.
 
Yes, it would be too soon. I agree it does need time to have a good run.
I have owned both and they are amazing devices, to say the least.
But I reckon later on in the year we will see it come on the market, if not early next year.
 
I don't think Samsung cares. They will make more money by releasing a new model sooner than later.

Well, given that the SII was replaced when 18 months old, I can see the SIII being replaced after 12 months. Still an amazing device in its own right.
 
Rumours or not, many people seem to base their purchases on the hype around a phone, so "negative press" like this, whether true or not, does not bode well for Apple. A while back Apple could seemingly do no wrong. Now we seem to be reading a lot more negativity. Even on social networks I read of die hard Apple fan friends asking about other phone options. Or is it just my perception?
 
At the end of the day, they both awesome amazing devices.. Just boils down to personal preference.
But lately more and more people are unhappy with Apple, well just what I have picked up.

The Wall Street Journal: "Apple has cut its orders for components for the iPhone 5 due to weaker-than-expected demand, people familiar with the situation said Monday. Apple's orders for iPhone 5 screens for the January-March quarter, for example, have dropped to roughly half of what the company had previously planned to order, two of the people said. The Cupertino company has also cut orders for components other than screens, according to one of the people." The WSJ is usually very well informed about Apple matters (and Japanese business new Nikkei reports something similar), so it's a safe assumption that they're not making this up. What, exactly, this means, we don't know; perhaps a new model already? Seems strange they would switch to a different screen this quickly, though. Android (more specifically: Samsung) keeps on growing, so it's only inevitable that Apple would feel a sting there at some point. We'll know for sure on the 23rd, when Apple's latest quarterly results come rolling in.

I don't think Apple has ever targeted the youth market - that is for Blackberry and other cheaper handsets. Apple has always targeted the more mature market, where the customers don't want to fiddle and hack their devices too much. Apple's pricing has also reflected this - targeting a mature professional market

Hey Bev, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions with a simple article. Truth is....we are merely pawns in a much bigger game. The huge corporates and their shareholders have strategies that we are not even aware of. Make a bit of a scare to the pawns, share prices fall, and investors move in and buy shares in huge numbers. Then a spring report is released in April showing big profits sending share prices soaring again.

Don't fall for it, see the bigger picture.
 
I agree that Samsung will just keep plugging away at releasing new phones....and why not?! They reached the 100m mark with the Galaxy range so it's obviously working for them.

Look at it now, the GS2 is still selling and Samsung has even released an updated version, GS2 Plus I think. Add to this the 40m GS3's that are still selling like mad. So yes, I can see a GS4 coming in 6 months without a doubt! This means Samsung will have the GS2/3/4 on sale all at the same time cornering the market like a bastard...

Meanwhile we'll get the iPhone 5S from Apple.........

R399 includes phone, 200 anytime minutes, 200 smses, 500mb data...
 
Okay so even Bloomberg confirmed the reduction in orders to be true and that Apple's share price is dropping. Still believe "it's just a rumour by unreliable sources"? So ... are we still to play this make-believe game here that the iPhone 5 is this huge success? Why can't people just be honest about this and stop trying to make up nonsense stories about false rumours blah blah blah. Apple has made a less that spectacular iPhone 5. They will learn from it and correct the mistakes. But step 1 in any recovery process is to admit the problem(s).

I cannot recommend the iPhone 5 to anyone with a clear conscience. If it must be Apple then wait for the next one, or get the super reliable 4S.

Not necessarily, but the view I was referring to was held by a poster, which is why I cited this as a risky strategy.
