When research is done and gets to the level where it is published, it is done in a such a way that it is representative of the general attitude amongst the group that is studied.

When a company is brave enough to tell its results to Forbes, you can be sure that their research is not just thumb sucked. You can bet your bottom dollar that they surveyed enough teens for a statistically significant (therefore generalizable) survey result.
