Weak iPhone 5 demand has Apple cut LCD panel orders

The only problem is that, what he posted is an opinion of a few teenagers and it is oposted by the forum's biggest WP fanboy.

And this makes the quoted story less reliable how?

When research is done and gets to the level where it is published, it is done in a such a way that it is representative of the general attitude amongst the group that is studied.

“Teens are telling us Apple is done,” Buzz Marketing Group’s Tina Wells told Forbes.

When a company is brave enough to tell its results to Forbes, you can be sure that their research is not just thumb sucked. You can bet your bottom dollar that they surveyed enough teens for a statistically significant (therefore generalizable) survey result.

What sort of percentage do US teens make up of the iPhone/iPad market?

From the same site. It's quite interesting to see that the likes of Samsung are not bringing it's Windows RT tabs into the US and that it's predicted that Nokia are going to sell out to Microsoft. I can see the hate moving from Apple back onto M$ soon.

The story doesn't have a vestige of reliability to begin with. 'Marketing guy says kids she talks to don't like Apple any more'.

Except where Apple is concerned. Then pretty much anyone can say pretty much anything and it'll get onto the front page of WSJ.

When a company surveys enough teens for a statistically significant survey result, they normally like to publicize the fact.

The way I see it the iPhone 5 is a dud. Apple will have learnt important lessons from this and I'm sure we'll see a greatly improved 5S or 6 sooner than originally planned. The 5 had issues from day one and the list grew longer. Many will argue they are small issues not worth making a fuss about. That might be true enough, but perceptions are what makes or breaks a product's sales figures, and as things stand the perception is that the 5 is not as good a product as everyone expected from Apple. A lot of cold water was quickly thrown on the hype and that has done enough damage to negatively influence sales. So, I expect these rumors to be accurate.

It's possible that it really is a dud. Wouldn't it be better to wait for Apple to confirm with some solid sales figures though before jumping on every report that comes out? From what I've seen in SA though, it can't stay on the shelves. And in the US Apple surpassed 50% marketshare. So it's fairly premature to call anything yet.

True. And given what the US carriers are saying about the sales of the 5 (that it outsold Android and WP combined by a ratio of 4 to 1) it's still early days.

So it seems, on the face of it, that the iPhone 5 is actually a fairly big success. At least sales-wise...the variable that actually matters? So why are the anti-Apple Frothing Fandroids brigade constantly harping on over the "dud"?

Lucky bugger, you! I have been playing with it every chance I get (when I go past CellC in the mall basically). It's a beautiful piece of kit. The screen is incredibly vibrant. Also played with iPad Mini the other day and was very impressed. Now I'm split between that and my ipad3.

Picked up the iPhone 5 in the iStore the other day, couldn't believe how light it is, even though it feels sturdy. Given how aesthetically pleasing the phone is I'm going to try and avoid a cover this time round.

The iPad Mini is great, haven't touched my iPad 3 in almost two weeks. Really the perfect form factor (size and weight) for tablet mobility.

force Apple to include a bit more bang in the next few product releases
Not a chance of that happening with the rabid Apple iFans willing to part with their money as long as it has an Apple logo on. If Samsung had as many problems with the S3 as the iPhone 5 had (purple lens flare, scuffs, bending, apple maps etc.) it would not have been the success that it is today

Because the US market is the be all and end all of all mobile markets, right? Agreed on waiting for sales figures, good or bad.

Same as above. Source for ratio would also be nice.

I wouldn't call it a dud since it is a good phone but it is not the *OMGIPHONE!!!!* that the iFans have been raving about.

If the S3 had as many problems as the iPhone 5 it would be a whole lot better than it currently is.

I have actually experienced some of those but the solutions are right there. No "you're holding it wrong" explanations.

Haven't experienced that, thankfully.
Completely subjective. I don't mind the plastic shell and I don't use S-voice.

I guess to some, because it was not as innovative as the 4 and 3G were, it's a dud. But didn't Apple prepare us for incremental improvements with the 4S? So it should not have been wholly unexpected.

I find it to be a fantastic piece of engineering; utilising a tried, trusted and simple UI experience which focuses more on quality than sometimes overblown abilities; and it just oozes quality across the board. I actually think it is magnificent, and this is from and Android fan.

This is an interesting counter to Apple's normal sell out's on release date.

Or is that the only time Apple devices do sell? On release, then its flatline till next release.

With next release rumored to be as early as March 2013?

Edit: apologies may/June

Sorry that I had to come back to this one but the difference between the iPhone and the S3 is glaringly obvious here. All the S3's problems had the fixes right there. The iPhone fixes had gems like this...
Workaround: There’s no way to fix the Maps app, and no telling how long it will take Apple to get it right, but in the meantime you can always turn to an alternative.
Workaround: Assuming your smartphone isn’t scratched on arrival then you should invest in a bumper or go shopping for iPhone 5 cases. If it does get scratched you could always polish off the coating to create a silver highlight around the edge or even laser engrave something on the back.
Workaround: Apple released a support document addressing this issue and suggested that, “Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.”
Solution: Wait for the next iOS update because it looks like a software glitch and will likely be fixed when Apple rolls out a platform update. There’s not really anything you can do about it in the meantime.

No it is not by a long shot, but still uncalled for to label it as a dud just yet.

Found the link, was quoting from memory here. Wasn't the 5, was iPhone as a whole. My bad:

EDIT: What is worse is that I looked at a year old article!! My bad, I was totally wrong here...

1. Use google's map app if Apple's own map bothers you. Personally I prefer Tomtom, followed by Apple's maps, then the google app.
2. I did get a case for mine - because I'm clumsy. :o
3. No purple flaring that I've noticed but hey, it's not like I take photos for a living.
4. I'm not even sure what the fourth one refers to.
