Weak rand has big impact on DStv

Of course. I have no intention of involving your TV in anything unconventional, and trust you don't either ;). Your retort above, however, gives pause...

I am merely trying to understand why you are so filled with bile and animosity against the nice smiling ladies and gentlemen who provide my satellite television services. I've never found them to be anything other than polite and obliging.

You seriously don't know? Just do a search on MyBB, you'll get multiple complaints and threads about them.
I also have a few gripes with them. Their billing system, billed me and deducted from me, months after I cancelled with them. Sure they fixed it, but I had to wait 2 months for my money. Secondly, they don't play nice with the other service providers, milking their customer base to fund their monopoly. The list goes on. All discussed in past threads....

I am very sorry about you having to wait an extra month for your money after their billing error. That's not good service, I agree, and it must have been a deep shock.

The other stuff you aver cries out for more substance. It might be useful for you to know that I subscribe to many services from many other companies, and not once have I found DStv to "not play nice" with them. I use cellular subscriptions, internet wireless and fixed line subscriptions, fixed line telephone subscriptions, direct-to-air TV services, Ku-band satellite services, cloud storage services, media streaming services, pharmaceutical supplies services, medical services, insurance and assurance services, banking services, citizen radio band services, electricity and energy delivery services, water services, cleaning services, fast food delivery services, trash collection services, sewage reticulation and treatment services, courier service, to mention just a few, and so far I haven't found any where DStv is even a factor let alone an obstacle to 'playing together'.

I agree that billing errors are totally unacceptable, as is getting someone's name wrong. I also agree that their most expensive all-encompassing Premium bouquet is not cheap at $60-ish per month.

But I still can't fathom why people express such hate for them, cursing them with the wish of death. Seriously. I don't get it at all. I've seen what TV services cost elsewhere in the world. I've compared their sports coverage with the very best here in the USA (I'm in Texas at the moment) and in the UK and Western Europe, and I can say without hesitation that DStv offers the best sports coverage on the planet. It's phenomenal what they do. And that's just the sport. I don't watch TV movies and soaps, only doccies, and these days all doccy channels worldwide are basically crap most of the time. That's not DStv's fault. It's just the state of global TV.

Please explain in more detail when you say they don't 'play nice', gouge and milk their customers, and are generally obnoxious and evil. My experience is rather different.

If only you South Africans opened you eyes and knew a bit more, you'd be proud of DStv instead of spewing such bile. It's a strange African phenomenon ... Africans of whatever shade seem to foster a resentment against those who make good. And they always want to use the government to bring down and destroy their best organisations and institutions.

Nicely said Arthur.

It's just the MyBB "way" to lambast DSTV if they deserve it or not.

They are not perfect but show me another equivalent service (internationally) that does not have its fair share of issues (billing; pricing; customer service etc)...

On Hellopeter they are clocking about 500 service complaints a month - hardly a sign of one of the "best organisations ".

Arthur supporting a monopoly brought on by the state and its regulations instead of the free market? Who'd have thunk it...

It is strange that their are subscription services out there where you can pay approx R 350 - R 500 pm, get ALL of the UK channels and ALL of the US channels via live streaming yet Monochoice make excuses that they will need to raise their pricing significantly??
