Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Yip ... my 4 MB is also crawling.

It's pointless remaining with WA if you battle to even load the MyBB page / forum.

Typically I would get full line speed, and now I am often around 100 KB/s maxing at around 250 KB/s on instantaneous speeds. I spend R 398 for a capped account at WA and get a line speed of 100 KB/s.

The question is whether I should pay the R 135 extra and go MWEB uncapped? Surely my line speed would be faster?

I have the same issue with streaming internet radio. Every now and then, I loose my connection for a short while, but it means that I have to manually restart the streaming radio again. Totally random as to when it happens

Same here. I do live online investment and trading. Connection seems to drop every now and then for few seconds. WA is denying that the problem lies with them, but everyone , including me, is telling them that we don't experience the same issues with other providers, especially SAIX. The quality of their internet service has been appalling the last few months.

Their problem lies in their dynamic routing imo. OSPF to blame? Equipment/routers not working as it should? Low spec equipment not capable to handle the loads?

This is ridiculous! How can you put something as important as this, internet downtime, on a forum! do WA expect it's customers to go to their "forum" to know what's going on when their internet goes down? How are they supposed to do that, with no internet ? WA should have sent out an email long beforehand to warn its customers of this.

It is also very telling that downtime that was expected to last for only 5 minutes, in the end took 5 hours ! (completed 4AM as per "notice")

getting so tried of this really connection slow again to day...

connection was fine over the weekend and speeds were great but both on saturday and sunday the connection just died for a few min which is not end of the world but it is annoying when your playing online games

Jeff i have logged the issue before (twice in fact) and nothing has come of it so i dont bother anymore. half the problem is, is that WA will blame the dslam, clients pc, or router first before looking at their own network. I have never had a issue like this with my telkom account which i must say i have been using 80% of the time now cause i never know if iam going to be having a good or bad day on WA.

The last few days however WA's latency and speeds have been great, I just keep wondering to my self for how long will it stay like this and tbh iam not sure iam going to keep WA as an ISP after November. Been having 4 months of problems with WA and my patience is starting to wear thin.

Also it is a R800 savings :) . i have come to realize that telkoms account seems to run almost on par atm with webafrica's and it costs alot less with more bandwidth (16gigs international and 30gigs local)

Hi Plaasjapie,

To clear this up, we won't just post about maintenance on our forums.
We notify everyone, on every single outage via the following channels:

  • Status Page
  • WAForums
  • Twitter
  • Internal notifications are sent to all staff who know what is going on

Yes, this is something that has been brought up before, and we are testing better notification methods to customers.

If you can PM me a ticket ref # I'll follow up on it for. One of the first checks we do are with our network - as well as trend analysis on every issue.

Dont know what i did with the ticket numbers, proberly deleted it. ALl i have is this not sure its going to be much help. But in any event i doubt i will be sticking with WA from next month as i dont see the point in it anymore

Jeff, i have the opposite of most of these guys. i have good speeds during the day but come 7:00pm my speed PLUNGES. i have screen shots of how the line was averaging 78kB/s and suddenly slows to 2.4kB/s. if it's people logging on for off-peak usage WA don't seem able to cope with the load - is that possible? the call centre's solution is to reset the port which never helps. you're being honest with us but maybe there's stuff going on that you don't know about - waddja think?

That's probably your Telkom exchange that's congested not WA's network that's at fault.

Morning maumau,

Can you drop me a PM with your client code and ADSL number so I can have a look at things from my end for you quickly? As grim said though, it does seem to point at an over-utilised or congested DSLAM.

Once I have the info, I'll be able to give you a more direct answer though :)

what's a DSLAM? do you mean too many people on my exchange log onto the internet at 7:00pm .... and most importantly is there anything i can do about it? please don't say i must deal with Telkom

Please note that this issue is still ongoing, our engineers have however identified an issue on our Mail Load Balancing System which they are working to resolve.

I love it when something that is supposed to provide redundency breaks.

And today there is no email either :wtf:

As mentioned here, we've managed to identify the issue with our Mail Load Balancing System and have put the relevant measures in place to avoid this from happening in future.

If there are still isolated incidents of this issue, please either post up here and contact our Hosting Support Department.

eish Jeff, things are still not 100%

We are on the 16th now and since the 29th or whatever when everything went belly up things have never been the same.
Things I used to be able to do.
Play WOW after 8pm with a 200 to 300ms ping, now it sits at 700/800
Watch justin.tv on my iphone/ipad, after about a minute my device says the stream is too crap and drops me to like 5fps and lowers my res.
I can't stream video properly, only every other video on youtube will actually come through okay, i suspect those are the ones on that local mirror thingy.

I'm running my line at 8MB, if I pull up 20 download threads I can maximize the line no problem but individual streams of data seem to hit like a 40kb cap.

Its becoming very annoying, my saix far out performs my WA account now.
I'm on the redafrica 30gig
