Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Wow that is quite bad then seeing you are using Astraweb. I rarely do any DL in business hours, but it always flies on weekends. Maybe they still fine tuning the extra capacity or something.

I also do not DL much in office hours and due to problems with WA news server, started using astraweb and at night generally it flies. I can understand some restrictions during office hours but +- 10 KB's is pathetic and when this is supposed to be a premium product :( I have 10 gigs left for the month and thought well, let's get some of that used. At this rate will still have a good few gigs left at the end of the month :)

Firefox crashed just now (happens often) and now I wait for a few minutes whilst iCloud calender loads

Capped user - Durban

DL on SABNZNB is "flying" at 35 to 45 KB's (6 meg line with a paid news server); iCloud calender took a few minutes to load.

Now why am I - a capped user - not able to DL at a reasonable speed? This is pathetic as it is running at not even 5 % of the lines capacity. I am paying a premium for a capped account, yet uncapped users are free to DL all day (OK outside of their thresholds).

Whilst I do applaud WA for looking into some areas, I really do feel the capped users are suffering. I have 30 gigs for normal hours - at least give me a reasonable service during office hours.

Edit - spoke too soon as now my speeds are even slower and more like 10 KB's :(

which port settings, ive done nice amount during the day today , 10 connections, ssl over port 80, about 700mb a hour

seems 3-4pm was bad only 400mb

Sorry but not very technical - looking at configuration i see port 119. Must I change that to 80? For both Astraweb and WA?

Thanks so much for your help

hmm nope, wa and astraweb don't support port 80, you can go on the astraweb website and see what ports they support for ssl.

The address also change for ssl.

wa only runs on port 119

Thanks hereticangel. Will play around with Astraweb and see if it helps. Hopefully after 17:00 things will improve. I still feel WA needs to get this sorted in the long term though

It is after 5 and now we are going at over 600 KB's. Full steam now

Whilst this is great, I do think that office hours performance should be better especially as this is a capped account. I only have a limited amount of capacity, at least let me have some better say over when I want to use it and how

You guys think we can rename the thread title a little?
Something like - Web Africa General Feedback. Nice to differentiate this thread from the Uncapped Feedback thread.

Just an idea :)
I've got a better idea. How about you make a new one & add a truckload of info to the OP. Things like tel#, news server address, link to the steam thread over at WA etc...not a sales pitch. Then assuming Fulton (OP) approves we ask the mods to close this one & link to the new one.

I'm on a 6Mb capped WA account in Durban, and it has been really slow all day.
What's going on with Web Africa? My line used to be very fast, but lately it often seems to be slow.
Are the uncapped accounts to blame?

Yes :) I still think that WA has not dealt with capped accounts properly, even though we pay a premium

I am having same problem in Durban.

My DL during DL+ time was awesome. 8.17 gigs in under 4 hours and pretty much operating at 100% all the time.

I am not aware of an announcement fro WA to say the new news server is operational, but after this morning I am assuming it is and that it has been a meaningful and significant upgrade. A pleasure to use, so well done WA

This is really odd. Local seems fine, though any international site I try times out after hop 7. Though my Afrihost backup account seems fine.

*Well, the problem appears to have been sorted out. Everything is back to normal.*

Yesterday afternoon battled to stream internet radio via iTunes. This afternoon it is worse. Come on WA this is the basic stuff - I am not trying to DL massive amounts; not streaming on youtube. Surely it is not too much to ask that I can just have a basic, consistent service!!

I am guessing that WA can not cope with month end.

To add to things, I have noticed very little comment from WA staff since the 25th or so. Conspiracy theory time :)

I'm still here Fulton.
End of the month is usually busier than any other day of the month, however it shouldn't be that bad.

A lot of improvements are to come though. We're also still busy implementing a whole lot of changes/ improvements to the network with regards to this post

ETA is anywhere between 2-4 weeks.

Good to know you are still around Jeff

In terms of news server, was that not going to be sorted by now?

Thanks

Should be sorted by now. I did see a comment on another thread about it, but didn't seem to be a constant issue. If there is a problem with the news server drop [email protected] or PM me your client code and I'll follow up.

Thanks Jeff. I did not so any DL this morning, so will see what happens in the next few days
