Web Africa ADSL general feedback

Morning all,

I'm really not sure why things haven't been sorted out yet. Our network standards definitely don't allow for things like this, and it's not something that we just brush off. I'd like to extend my apologies to the guys who are still having issues with our network when it comes to slow/ intermittent browsing and higher than normal latencies.

Our Networking Team, as well as the Networking and NOC Managers are trying to resolve all the problems currently experienced. As soon as I have some form of useful information land in my inbox I'll post it up. Promise, you'll be the first guys to know!

OK guys, I've been told that some changes have been made. What is browsing looking like for now?

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the quick assistance with regards to the hosting!!

Cheers.

Last night browsing was average at best and youtube very mixed too

I did not have much to DL and DL+ time was really slow (at max I aim for 2 gigs per hour)
12: 414 megs
1: 320 megs
2: 330 megs

It too over 3 hours to DL 1110 megs :( Very poor performance indeed

OK guys, I'm not really sure where to go with this - things should have been fixed yesterday already.
If you can, please drop me a PM with the following information:

  • Client Code
  • Account Type (eg .Uncapped 4Mbps)
  • Are you throttled?
  • What is slow? (eg. Browsing, gaming, downloading)
  • When are things slow?

What I'll do from my side is push on all the details to the relevant guys to have a proper look at things. I may not reply to the PM, but I can promise you I'll have your details passed on and looked into!

Speedtest SPEED WAVE!

SPEED WAVE... Hmmm, sounds wrong, how about WAVE CRAWL? :D
Please do a Speedtest via http://www.speedtest.net/wave/912877a867cab930 if you're on Web Africa ADSL.

I've just arrived back from Cape Town, only to find my WA ADSL still crawling (0.19 Mbps as a Capped user using a 10Mbps line). It might even be worse than last week! What's going on - this is ridiculous! I don't see any more forum posts... have you guys given up / jumped ship?

WA ADSL fast today after a couple of days of struggling. Did the speedtest you required. From Randburg.

Who is the person from Lenasia getting such crazy speeds? :) That person isn't even on WebAfrica.

File hosts were crawling / timing out the whole day for me. They *miraculously* jumped up to line speed at ~7PM

Jeff helped me quickly with a web site I'm trying to host, but they have DNS problems and its the 3rd day trying to get my site just to work and get online!!! Very frustrating.....E-mail still not working.....sign

Did a test on your wave. For some reason it shows me as from Montagu...strange. Anyways test results were
3.60 Mb/s Down
0.42 Mb/s Up
17ms latency
both times.

Feedback

I gather the news server is far from sorted.

This morning I had 10 odd gigs queued to DL (all files loaded in the last 24 hours). In the first hour 605 megs were DL, in the next hour 411 megs were managed and since then nothing, so I have 8783 m3gs still to be DL and not even getting 1 kbps.

This is really annoying as I do not know when last the news server got even close to decent performance. I am a capped user so there should be no restrictions on my account.

I wish WA would get this sorted once and for all

I think the news server actually stopped working around 1-2am. I also have xsusenet free 1mbit/sec account, and my downloads slowed down to that speed looking at my mikrotik interface graphs. Around 6am it looks like the wa news server came back up because my downloads went up again, albeit my SABNZBD limiting kicks in around that time.

If you want to avoid all the aggro suggest you rather get a paid newsserver.Look around there are always specials available.I use Newsdemon and consistently get full line speed.

Thanks for suggestion. I do also use Astraweb and the way my SABZNBD is set up is that WA is my primary and Astraweb my secondary.

In addition the WA news server really used to be superb and one of the things I used to really appreciate about them

Finally I guess with the costs of internet etc in SA, I really do not want to spend more than I have to (and can not afford more and more too)

Morning guys,

As a reminder, if you're still seeing slow speeds with us, please PM me the following information:

  • Client Code
  • Account Type (eg .Uncapped 4Mbps)
  • Are you throttled?
  • What is slow? (eg. Browsing, gaming, downloading)
  • When are things slow?

If you have an alternative ISP account, test that too so we can confirm it's not your line/ exchange. You can include any tracert's to slow sites too.
Things should be sorted out now, in general our call queues and ADSL department is looking much quieter than yesterday - which is a good thing!

A task has been logged for the news server issues, so it's being attended to.

Hi Jeff

Please disregard that PM I sent you yesterday...Telkom changed the ADSL port & therefore the DSL Secure prevented it from authenticating. All good now.
