Web Africa ADSL general feedback

So at exactly 7am this morning my internet went from the usual ok to basically DEAD.

Since 10am it has sligtly improved with youtube working again... but local latencies are unstable from30 - 100ms

WHat is wrong? It is 100% not the exchange or line... as afrihost tests fine and the guest telkom account...

Hi bgotapen,

PM me your account details if you still having issues so I can get our team to assist.

Any issues with Google services?

I can't even ping Google DNS.

Code:
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1
Request timeout for icmp_seq 2
Request timeout for icmp_seq 3

Works fine from my Telkom account:

Code:
PING 8.8.8.8 (8.8.8.8): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=0 ttl=56 time=35.121 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=32.859 ms
64 bytes from 8.8.8.8: icmp_seq=2 ttl=56 time=38.265 ms

Anyone else getting extremely high latency in games atm? I'm getting around 500 - 1000 ms on a local server (dota 2) :/

My connection was totally borked. Couldn't figure out what was going on.

After rebooting everything twice nothing seemed to work, so I just disconnected from my business capped account and connected to my free account then back to my business account and now it's working again. :wtf:

Please make it happen.

Thanks for the double data from midnight to 6am thing for capped accounts, but considering the lovely blackouts thanks to Eishkom, storms on a nightly basis (PC and router switched off, etc) and such, can you please make the data available for anytime use?

Wishful thinking, I know...

Yip, my internet has been dead since I got home last night, other accounts work, but Web Africa is going nowhere slowly...

LiveChat support says it's a general issue and they are working on it... TGF3G

Working fine here...but then again I am part of the Master Capped ADSL race and not a puny uncapped minion :p

I had issues last week with an authenticating account with little to no throughput. Good now though.

Lines really busy, asked for a port reset. If this doesn't work I am trying the free account switch, then back to normal account trick.

Got no throughput since yesterday evening. Modem is synching, logging on, getting ip address, getting gateway and getting name servers, but after that nothing, not even a time sync. Also, not a peep from support...

Exactly what I'm experiencing...

I'm confused about 'Download Plus' on a capped account.

From the WA FAQ: "Download Plus is add-on bandwidth that can be used from midnight to 6am. All of our capped packages get free Download Plus gigs equal to double the gigs of the respective capped package. To illustrate, the Home Capped 15GB Anytime package also gets 30GB free Download Plus from midnight to 6am."

However, looking at the Home Capped packages, for example the 600Gb package is "120GB anytime + 480GB from midnight – 6am"

Twice 120GB is 240Gb. 480 Gb is 4x the Anytime bandwidth. How much of this package is 'Download Plus'? I understand that 'Download Plus' bandwidth is a 'freebie' from WA - how long will it exist?

In this case is it actually 120Gb for R399 vs Afrihost actual 100Gb for R399, in each case plus whatever 'freebies' the ISP feels like offering at the time? The problem is that Afrihost's 'freebie' data is also usable anytime, not just 12-16.

Thanks, ken

Hi Guys,

Just to give you some info around this issue, due to Telkom migrating all their DSL infrastructure away from old Cisco ESRs (Edge Service Router), to new Alcatel BNGs (Broadband Network Gateway) it sometimes causes some IP ranges to be allocated to multiple routers, instead of one. This means the affected IP range will not work on one or more of the BNGs.

We need to escalate this to Telkom so if you are affected i.e: no throughput, please send me a PM with the following:

  1. Your ADSL username;
  2. IP address you've been assigned to at the time where there is no throughput;
  3. A traceroute while it is not working;

Once we have this info we will get Telkom to fix the issue. In the meantime as a temp fix please disconnect your router for 15 minutes so that you can be assigned a new IP that is not within the affected range. If it's still not working thereafter the reset please try again so that you may be assigned a new IP.

Apologies for the inconvenience caused and we should have this issue fixed soon.

We just increased the download plus data at the beginning of the month so the KB article is a bit outdated:o. I have let our team know that they need to update it and thanks for bringing it to our attention ;)

This is a permanent change not a promo so how long will it last you ask? FOREVER!! :D

Please make it happen.

Hi Bursty-Dude,

The cost of bandwidth differs for different times of the day so moving this data to anytime will mean an increase in the package cost which is not what we want to do as we always want to provide more data but without passing costs onto the consumer.
