Web Africa going uncapped finally

Sounds good for businesses. BUT they'd need to change it quite a bit to make it fly for home users a.k.a the leeching crowd. There something like the axxess model is better imo. e.g. no limits 23:00-06:00.

One thing that is very interesting though is that they've got a defined measuring stick:
Once usage returns to lower than 50% of the theoretical maximum of data

This means you can work out exactly how much you can download. Assuming shaping doesn't hit you...which it probably won't on "gold" bw...but this is going to be a problem on Home/Bronze/whatever its called consumer bw.

Strongly disagree.

The problem is that the cost of doing business for an ISP is still huge (IPC, I'm looking at you here!). For a business quality product, the ISP will typically offer a lower contention ratio and less restrictive traffic management policies than for a product geared at home users - but this in turn means that the ISP has to purchase significant upstream capacity (expensive, as I mentioned earlier), and as they're businesses and not charities, that has to be passed on to the end user. When one considers the costs of IPC link, primary capacity on SAT-3, backup capacity on Seacom, then decide to offer it at a low contention ratio - it's easy to see why the final product costs that much.

I've noticed that you're generally very quick to attack the ISPs, when in reality the vast majority of them (TelkomInternet being an obvious exception) are doing the best that they can with what they have to work with. Your frustrations would be far better directed at Telkom. :)

Glad to see that some of you are interested in our Business Uncapped offerings :) We're also looking forward to the official launch!

Regarding the questions about a possible home uncapped solution, it's unlikely that we'll be offering this type of product anytime soon. The reasoning behind this is around the quality of bandwidth being delivered compared to the current marketing pricing options.
On this note though, we are looking into some changes to our Home Data packages though :)

@VioAdmin: Not too sure where this assumption comes from, but I can personally assure you that this is most definitely not the case. It's been mentioned numerous times on the forums that Web Africa are in it for the long haul and nothing less. By no means is any person in the company out to make "quick cash" and then close the doors.
Keep watching this space, Web Africa will still be around in 5, even 10 years from now.
 
Yeah. WA is good quality bw, but at a ludicrous price. Not too interested in getting uncapped for over R750/m for 4mbps

Hi All,

As the page suggests this is a Business Uncapped product, it's not designed with home users in mind (although they're welcome to use it).
It is designed to offer the highest quality uncapped experience, and is targeted specifically at Soho and SME sized Businesses.

Unfortunately, Uncapped for home users with the quality levels you've come to expect from Web Africa, specifically at the pricing points you are looking for, is something we can't currently offer.
To be viable, either the quality has to drop a lot, or the price has to increase significantly, and we aren't comfortable with either option at present.

However, with the cost of bandwidth decreasing, we are hoping that this scenario will change in the future.

Static IP's are coming shortly, we decided to launch the product without this rather than delaying for something that not everyone required.

If Openweb can offer a higher priced package(GOLD) than the standard price and get away with it why dont you guys also then offer a more expensive package? You dont have to have a R500 package just because everyone else does.
 
it will surely be expensive! lets hope a consumer uncapped offering will soon follow at competitive prices..
