Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Well that is just daft... 6 months ago it may have earned some mild praise, but that pricing is way behind the curve.

What took you so long? Afrihost has been half their price for months.

Who knows? Giving them the benefit of the doubt I guess...but Im done with being nice. No gain from that...I just lose out. Will be going with the cheaper option from now on...tried to remain loyal, got nothing to show for that really. Feels like a slap in the face...with them telling me to wait for the new price structure...then this is what they do? Im done with WA

How does that anouncement make the news? It would be interesting to see there new subscriber statistics.

It makes the news because a lot of people have been waiting for this announcement. That it's a massive let down doesn't mean it shouldn't be on the front page. WA have a lot of support from when they used to offer good value. Personally, I expected them to come close to Afrihost's pricing, maybe R40/gb, but with additional value in the form of free bandwidth to news servers / steam content servers etc.

This is a huge disappointment, which arguably makes it even more newsworthy. I guess the heading should rather read "WA stalls on real price cuts"

Web Africa is becoming something of an Mweb. Ridiculous prices justified by the way they think their perceived by the public.

No way I would ever support this.

Matthew Tagg & WebAfrica - EPIC FAIL

What a joke. And to think that for the last 4 months I put all my hope on WebAfrica's new pricing to stimulate the ADSL market and start the next wave of broadband revolution. Luckily I moved to an Afrihost 10GB package when it first came out.

How on earth did Matthew Tagg get nominated for CEO of the year? Pricing like this isn't just disappointing, it makes me wanna :sick::sick:

WebAfrica - we don't give a rats ass about your new network. We want cheap bandwidth. Period.

If other resellers can bring us R20 - R30 per GB, and you can't, then you have failed!

No more hoping or supporting WebAfrica.

Gian & Afrihost - expect to see a torrent of new clients coming your way. The myBB community will not support WebAfrica any longer.

I was waiting for the new WA price structure since end of last year. I am really disappointed. I will definitely close my 5GB sorry I mean 6GB (ha ha what a joke) unshaped account with them before the end of the month. I also closed our business’s uncapped account with them last month because they still only offer a 1 Mb uncapped account.

Most people are dumb enough to use an ISP's "free" mail service, so they're locked into using them forever just because they don't know better AND they'll lose the email when they move away from them. Too much effort for them to do so they'll just stick with them

Thats a very, very good point. I haven't been able to get my parents to move off MWeb for this very reason. One day....

Companies that fail to stay pro-active and forward thinking deserve to be relegated to the scrap-heap. So long WebAfrica, you were useful to us for a time there. Sad to see such a once-innovative company become a dinosaur.

Will webafrica no longer be offering their IS packages? I just wanna know cause then its time to move to another ISP. I mean it must be shocking if you own your own network but it so expensive people buy accounts with you that is resold from another network.

I would like to congratulate WA for dropping the prices, even if it is only R1. This just confirms that they do not care about the customer and what is important to the customer. Did nobody look at the survey that was done a few weeks ago by MyBB. PRICE PRICE PRICE

It's only a limited offer. How would you think their existing clients will feel at some people being given 30GB at R199, while they have to fork that out for 4GB?

Strangely ironic how I have beem asking this exact question the whole of last week - then everybody had a mouth full that I should wait for the "big announcement" on Monday.

And what's with the 'wait for July' thing?? They told us to wait for February, and then dropped this bomb. Then when July comes, they'll drop their prepaid pricing by another R1/GB, and then it will be 'wait for September' and then 'wait for December'. :wtf: man

Ok I didnt expect them to go below R30/GB but I did expect it to be close. Kinda ridiculous - but well they'll have to figure that out for themselves next month when everyone leaves.

Congrats to Afrihost though - they seem to be handling themselves amazingly.

I'm still shell-shocked, I can't believe we waited 3 months for this ****? Really? Is the marketing guys BLIND? Did they not see any of the other ISP's drop their pricing at all? Or are they comparing themselves (like iBurst) to a cellular provider?

Web Africa is also placing a stronger focus on one-account packages – which combine ADSL access and data bundle prices. According to Tagg their one-account ADSL offerings are now of the most competitively priced in the market.

Most competitive, compared to what? Even telkoms do level 3 beats their complete package on 4mb with 6gb on a per gb pricing.

Very disappointing!

I'll add my voice: FAIL.

I was a big critic of Afrihost getting into the bandwidth business, but I have been using them for a few months now and they haven't missed a beat for me yet. I'm loving the half-price top-ups. My average usage since I moved to them has gone from 3GB's a month to an average of 10GB's a month.

Web Africa seems to have forgotten the KISS principle.

/checks calender... Nope not the 1st of April.. This sure looks like a joke. Where's the innovative Tier-1 flexability? I was hoping at least for an uncapped free local bandwidth bolted on all WA packages...

wow...this is a little....pathetic.

been with WA for a while, but this....blimy.

time to seriously consider other options.

And personally, i find the R1 price drop on prepaid not just pathetic, but insulting.

Well, if you are STILL with WebAfrica you have no excuse to move over to Afrihost now :)

Afrihost FTW
