Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Also, and I'm suprised no one has commented on it yet, the plural of GB is GBs not GB's (or even just GB, as we rarely add the s to this acronym).

Wow, these new prices fail so badly...
Gonna cancel my 3 accounts with them and state the new prices as the reason..

Everyone should do that, its ridiculous

Okay so I dont get this. They were giving away those massive packages for free during the trial right? I cant remember properly now but wasnt it 15gb int and 50gb local or something silly like that?

So they can give away those thousands of gigs at whatever price and then they have the nerve to come in with such overpriced cr@p?
Their service is no better than anyone else and they should catch a wakeup and realise consumers in this country are more interested in price then perceived service.

I was fully expecting a offer that will shake the current market as much as afrihost's offer did. At least for the local only bandwidth. This... this is underwhelming. Seems I'll stick to Afrihost and IS local-only accounts.

If myBB & RPM has even a shred of credibility, they will write another article reporting on the shock, disappointment and disgust expressed by the myBB community about this new pricing fail. We feel totally insulted by this. Now that is something to report on.

If myBB don't do it.. Then I have lost all faith in myBB and RPM's ability, dedication and commitment to the community.

Haha Toxic you're very alarmist.
Everyone can just chiiiiiiiiiilll out.

Afrihost have said more than once that they're selling below cost.

So, assuming Afrihost still exists in a few months/years, then yes - WA fail.

To be fair, their ADSL 4Meg 3GB complete account is competitive. On the rest, my guess is that they are not using SEACOM and have instead decided to go for the fail over route of SAT3 and SAFE. Afrihost and the other guys offering the good deals are using an IS hybrid option of SEACOM and SAT3. If SEACOM goes down, these other options will be badly effected. I really think that WA should have looked at offering a SEACOM solution. Let the IT savvy people cover for themselves by getting 1GB prepaid SAT3/SAFE accounts.

Anyone wonder why the pricing will drop again in July? When is the next Telkom backed line going into use (EASSy)? I think WA will take the knock a month before this new line to try not to lose too many clients because they will be better able to compete when its up and running.

It seems IS is the only company in South Africa that brings savings to the consumer. Look at the R899 uncapped after hours account. Look at the cheap 30GB local accounts. IS is the only ISP excited about the new speed increases. IS for president!!!!!

@ linkinpark - you may want to remove your affiliate link in your signature after moving to afrihost.

Gotta add that this is an epic fail.
Why are dedicated clients charged R0.04c per mb (R40 per gb) but adsl prices are more expensive? Surely data center bandwidth should cost more than adsl bandwidth considering all the SLA's in place and fail-overs?

Afrihost FTW.

This is very simple to me.
If you are, or were, or were considering Web Africa. No more need.
Move to Afrihost.
Game over.

correct me if i am wrong but telkom (saix) has got a role to play in all of this - since WA is using telkom ip connect 100% and not seacom...as upstream provider?

this is sad....going to email WA to discontinue my subscription.

but lets not give up. keep supporting the good guys that passes the best deal to the consumers!

AFAIK, They are not using IP Connect any more but are using the SAT3/SAFE option instead of SEACOM.

In all honesty MYBB are too in favour of Web Africa for my liking and there's a definitive bias for all of what Web Africa / Teraco does.
I would expect this attitude towards Hetzner's services considering the relationship between them?

So how can IS offer very competitive pricing then? Compare Webafrica's local and IS's local. Both will use Telkom's IP-connect network on these accounts.

Very Dissapointing.
Was hoping for a decently priced local account like there 200gig accounts during the trials.
Pfft bummer

Lol
its cheaper to buy 10 1 gig local accounts than it is to buy the 10gig account....

I think RPM and TAGG have a close relationship, I doubt that will happen.

All they did was increase the amount of bandwidth that can be used on some of their packages (barring the few where the price actually dropped). All they did was give everyone more Gigs for roughly the same price. 80% of the people dont really use close to 100% of their bandwidth allocation. Its like giving someone who can only travel 100km a month 10km extra for the same price, but he'll never reach 110km cause he just doesnt go above it.
