Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Seriously? Good support...my line is with webafrica, lightning strikes my line in december...logged a fault, two days later no feedback. WTF i have to phone telkom anyway! surprise surprise, nothing logged for my line!
Logged it but lost two days anyway? Moving my line back tomorrow.

Cheers WA. chat to you in July but by the looks of it maybe not?

+1 I had to fax the debit order form for R130 for the IS 30GB local account. Now I don't have a fax. Had to fax it 5 times costing me R8 each time. Then they insisted they did NOT receive it. So I went back and faxed it to my fax2email and I emailed it to them Friday afternoon 2pm. I only received a response from support via email This morning [Monday morning] saying they have received my email and my account activated. Now is that worth paying double on their prepaid service? compared to other ISp's? No I don't think so.

btw if wa staff don't beleive me pm me for my client code and check the support tickets date. :-)

Busy moving my PrePaid to AfriHost, I normally use about 2 or 3 gigs a month of PrePaid with WebAfrica... Costs me R210, I will be signing up for the Bronze package with AfriHost which will cost me R29 a month (Every month) and then if I need more than a gig I can TopUp for R29 or maybe even R14... So basically I will be saving R150 a month, doesnt seem like a lot but if I did this when AfriHost started with their special and I wasnt such a loyal customer to WA I could have saved R500 by now... I await WebAfricas response to this catastrophe, but for now I have to say "Goodbye". I will still be hosting with them but the PrePaid is just to pricey.

WA quite boldly puts the price of the 384K line at R152, which is correct, but I am also pretty sure alot of people are on closer plan 4 which then makes the 384K line at R135 and not R152
which then makes Afrihost offer at R165 and top ups at R29 and the occasional TWo for ONE deal more attractive

Incorrect. All ISP's will need to make the leap to IPC at some point in time if they ever want to be sustainable in the long run.
We have made the investment early on in the game, something all the other smaller ISP's will eventually have to do, soon.

Kyron, I don't understand what you are saying here. I don't know what IPC is, but it doesn't seem to give you any performance advantage, so I can only compare ISP's on price. I don't see why all ISP's will have to switch to IPC if it is something that means they have to charge more for the same service. If you are saying that it is something with a high initial investment (which you have to recoup), but which will enable you to drop your prices drastically later, then fine - I'll just continue to use an old-tech ISP until you reach that point. Switching is completely painless to me thanks to the wise decision to not take an all-in-one package.

FWIW, I don't think that WA are a bunch of money-grubbing robbers, I just think that you made a very, very bad business decision when you selected this model for financing your new network, and that the realisation of just how bad is making you pretty desperate. A better decision would have been to amortise the costs over a longer time so that you could drop the prices now (easy for me to say in hindsight - I imagine there must have been interesting scenes in your boardroom when the bottom dropped out of prices just after you started your trial).

zOMG, people on WA Facebook page think this is 'awesome'... I pity their ignorance...

Ok, this is stating what has been repeated to death in this particular threat. Why would anyone pay more than R14.50 per GB (Afrihost) - this is crazy? WebAfrica is no longer a contender. They (and almost all other SA ISP's) are not even in the same race anymore.

My local corner shop is selling 2L Coke @ R18.90, the local Spar is selling the same 2L for R14.99. Guess where I am buying my colddrinks?

Afrihost is killing the competition. I have bought in excess of 30GB of bandwith from them per month for the past 3 months. My line rental is still with Axxess since they used to provide some of the cheaper bandwidth 6 months ago.

I would love to see how much business Afrihost has stolen from the other ISP's. They are still running the Buy 2, pay for 1 special. Afrihost - best price in SA, great support/service. I will stay with them for a while. ;)

sorry to go all nazi grammar on you, but should the second comma in your quote be a semi-colon?

Only if it was 2 seperate statements/thoughts. The comma is in the correct place (English grammer). Not sure about Nazi grammer rules though.

Wait for July, you won't be disappointed, you'll get more lies and empty promises

but wait there's more you'll get free attitude too.

Notice how Waroop and Wamatt are now AFK, they have adopted their usual head in the sand approach to management. And Krayon, well he's obviously unhappy to have to field all the complaints and questions so he resorts to attitude.

They still take digs at Afrihost whenever they can, yet Afrihost are still there holding the same pricing and offering more 2 for the price of 1.

At the end of the day WA fail, the list of additional things you score are crap, they offer no better service than any other ISPs, in fact in some cases their support is worse. can anyone say Steam schmeam!

They have been promising a price adjustment since September, wait and see, they said, I didn't and I saved myself thousands of Rands. Wait for July, they say - now I think their customer will be saying "Hell No!!!".

Roop and Matt you should be embarrassed, you ignore your customers, you take digs at your competition and you adopt attitude with the community.

to the rest of you out there who are disappointed by the lack of competitive pricing from WA - move away as quickly as you can, don't listen to their empty promises anymore.

this may sound petty and cruel....but in my fantasy world, if i wake up tomorrow morning and afrihost has announced a price cut....

well....

i'll just die of laughter :p

Interesting. I just got WAJeff's DOB and Car Registration with like 2 clicks of a mouse. (FFS DONT LABEL ME A HACKER!... and if you do make it sound l33t)
