Web Africa's new ADSL pricing revealed

Hi Kalvaer,

Thanks for the post and valuable feedback. This statement by Krayon may have been misinterpreted. The MyBB community is most definitely very important to us. If it were not why would we employ every effort to ensure all queries were answered today, or launch specials like our 30GB @ R199? I think what he was trying to illustrate was that the new pricing was not geared specifically towards power users (as seen by the MyBB response thus far :O) who have a very particular type of demand - cost p/GB.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, we are definitely committed to MyBB and will continue to be so :)

Well, I was a customer of WA from 2004 until today. I only started reading the MyBB forums quite recently though. What do I get?

This is without a doubt the BIGGEST FAIL of 2010!

To WebAfrica:

You are as USELESS as the ANC, Zuma and Malema! I for one, will NEVER sign up with you, EVER. I dont care if you decrease your prices to R1/gb. From this day forward, I shall never recommend WebAfrica to anyone! You should be ashamed of yourselves! You have disgraced not only the Mybb community, but the ENTIRE Internet community! I really hope that your company burns down to the ground, and it WILL. Please stop defending your lame company with all your rubbish excuses! You are only causing more damage to your reputation. Please take this into consideration and NEVER show your faces here again!

To the mods who are thinking of banning me for these harsh words, I say,"Get on with it".

I am appalled and outraged at this announcement, and im even more shocked that the mods could allow this to make front page. Im disappointed that not one mod has said anything in this thread and that they havent even written an article about the disgrace that is WebAfrica.

I bid farewell to all you Mybb peeps, seeing as this might actually be my last post on here before I get pwned by the mods :P

I think this may be the largest backfire an ISP has ever had on a press release... I anybody happy?

I'm also a WA subscriber and am signed up for the local IS 30gb for R130.....after this great announcement its now going to cost me......wait for it.........R130! :(

The only other alternative is openweb (30gb local/R130) - there might be others, I'm going to look as now I"m not huge WA fan!

dude, cavedog showed me the SAOL.co.za 384Kb line with 50 gigs local, SAIX too not even IS. For 250 bucks. you only pay like 40 bucks more for this. But its SAIX. Just buy it for someone and take the bandwidth, they can keep the line and you keep the bandwidth. they get internet and you get 50 gigs. You can charge them how ever much you want for the adsl line.

Im gonna do it with my brother, he pays 200 bucks for his 384 line, so i will tell him to migrate and he can just pay 100 bucks, deduct that from 250 and all i pay is 150 for a 50 gig saix acount. i have other bandwidth he can use for the month, easy peasy.

I use axxess and theyve done sweet FA with their pricing going on two years now, so as much as i believe this was a really stupid move by WA, the only difference is that the other isps didnt announce what they are doing, which will pretty much be the same, theyre just keeping quiet about screwing you without vaseline

Vote with your wallets, folks. You have that right. Choose AfriHost and force the other ISP's to rethink their ancient, outdated business models.

By doing nothing you consent to have your wallet plundered, and you deserve that.

By moving over to AfriHost you send a clear message saying that high bandwidth pricing cannot be tolerated any longer.

Does Afrihost have uncapped. no, R2900 for 100gb, i want what theyre smoking :)

Well I just orderd my 2nd Local Prepaid from WA at R14, its may only be a R5 saving, But I think its a trade off with the free-zone, you can't deny thats a good deal, still I was really hoping for a nice big and cheap local package

Has anybody started the Facebook group yet? I want to see what fallout is going to be posted there when the prices are compared to Afrihost. Any “mom and pops” with half a brain would move away from WA if they read that.

good idea Freakboy an ISP Watchdog on Facebook would spread any ISPs breaking news like the Herpes it is

i would, but then they may catch onto the fact that I work for them

Ummm, forgive me if I am wrong but is this not what the majority of internet users in SA look at? My father is probably the type of person you are aiming at but when I emailed him AfriHost pricing he jumped straight away. These are his words, "Why pay more for 3 gigs when I can get 5 gigs for cheaper, even if I don't use it". And trust me, now he uses 5 gigs and the special top ups :) We talking a 55 year old emailer and browser her.

All it took was one email from me, he did the rest. Even set up a gmail account so he could move ;) Don't underestimate the non-tech savy...

Huh? We've been active members of the forum for years and always do our absolute best to respond to customer queries head on. Today we ensured almost every question was responded to and as promptly as possible (while juggling our usual work load). This statement is hardly fair Igloonaut?

You guys have done well on that front. It can't be easy, under the circumstances.

i did the same for my dad, he only plays online poker, and was paying R70 for 1 gig, now he pays 29. and he downloads country music now and then, he is impressed with the 14.50 topups.

he's happy
