I want to know does companies still use web proxies? Most companies now use appliance firewalls and web proxies are chucked out the window...

Most appliance firewalls can also act as a proxy, does not mean you have to enable it. All depends on your network setup and what you want to achieve

IF you setup a explicit proxy correctly it's usually more secure, but some programs might/will not work correctly if it needs to talk out to a hosted server somewhere else, so then the proxy feature gets disabled
