Seeing Twitch content being delivered from Hong Kong as well (without buffering), not sure why they're feeding from a slightly more distant CDN. What DNS are you using?

Quad9 with Quad1 as secondary. I just flushed my Windows DNS, Chrome's DNS and my router's DNS cache and twitch seems to be back to normal. Sorry for the PEBCAK

Pity we can't see further into Twitch's network; we'd be able to see how DNS determined CDN sources. All we know is that we get to the Hong Kong core point and nothing further. Always interesting to know how something seemingly simple can cause such a headache. Anyway, glad to hear that flushing DNS records did the job.

Sorry for the late reply here. This is an odd one. We don’t have different routing for different prefixes within a region. Bumping your connection would give you another IP within the same prefix pool- which means your routing remains identical. Definitely something with the matchmaking algo.

While I agree that COD is often faulty, I think I need to diagnose this a bit more...

Would re-connecting reset anything else? e.g. would it flush the DNS cache on the mikrotik?

Edit: it does seem to be more widespread than I originally thought. Giving up on this. Will just have to suffer until its patched (if ever).

Got any IPs we can trace to? It depends on whether the servers are on a cloud provider like AWS, are clients of HE (Linode) or have some other transit provider. Singapore is a particularly interesting one due to the discrepancy in transit providers using SAFE. But happy to take a look for you.

Weirdly, up until you tested the new transit and then rolled back last week, I could always fire up VPNGame and connect to their SG server at around 130ms and play through that. After the rollback, this is now my path to that same server, which is unusable:

With regards to the changed routing, it looks like two factors are at play. HE started announcing some of these prefixes on peering, and their path is substantially longer. The other is related to the routes we're picking up and we're starting on cleaning those up. Any IPs you can drop (don't worry about a trace), will help us isolate ASNs and see what we can do.

Are you in KZN? I've noticed the same when playing anything with servers hosted in Johannesburg, playing dota 2 has a constant ping spike from 8ms to 40ms with a little bit of packet loss. Sometimes I can't even see what my ping is with how fast it jumps up and down.
