Greetings @websquadza would it be possible to get an update on ticket #793862 as I have been waiting a while for some kind of news or even just an update.

Hi there. The Service Delivery team has been hounding the FNO for lead times and will revert as soon as they have some solid feedback. Apologies for the delay here.

So the end of our glorious gigabit evolution is speedily approaching, @websquadza any news out of vumatel of making it a permanent fixture?

Has it been worthwhile for you? With my line we found after testing from websquad side that going over 200mbps the packet loss was completely ridiculous and unusable... Not sure if its worth it?

There are a couple of benefits for example with Warp+ which uses Cloudflare Argo you get access to the best routing. If you do remember a while back Cloudflare stopped traffic to it;s ZA points due to capacity issues so with Argo you don'y have that issue as you get priority.

If your ISP like in my case does not have the best international routing then this could help with that.

Most ISP's peer with Cloudflare all over the world but most ISPs don't have direct routes to you so it can help with that as Cloudflare will carry most of the traffic and they have a pretty good network.

For SA though they do use Seacom for transit but the routing seems to be spot on. France, Poland, Austria ect goes over Seacom and then you get UK, NL,PT ect still using Seacom transit but goes over WACS so the routing is decent.

You will have to test and see if you notice improvements or not.
Would love to know how to set this all up and costs involved. Vumatel trenched, 1gbps line Durban.. My online gaming would greatly appreciate this and hopefully help with buffering from streaming iptv services.

I found quite a bit of instability on the ubiquity stuff over 300-400Mbit yeah, but on that Asus GT-AX11000 router I've had no stability issues at all - so I guess the ubiquity stuff isn't 'powerful' enough to actually run at a gigabit stably? I'm not sure, but that's my observation at least.

Now that's a router hehe. However bypassing the router and plugging directly into the cpe we had the packet loss, so not caused by the router.

@websquadza I logged a ticket, but it seems to be at least related to CapeTown customers where loadshedding.eskom.co.za is routed/handled differently by "something".

The expected results for curl http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/LoadShedding/GetStatus
is a single digit (or perhaps a connection reset as it's perhaps overloaded), but from both my IPs and another frined in CapeTown, I get this response:

Code:
<html><head><title>Request Rejected</title></head><body>The requested URL was rejected. Please consult with your administrator.<br><br>Your support ID is: 335974701700386948<br><br><a href='javascript:history.back();'>[Go Back]</a></body></html>⏎

I've checked this on both my IPs, and a friend on WebSquad gave the above responses, but switching to Vanilla, it works as expected.

So the questions: which/where is this coming from??? your upstreams, or Eskom's hsoting provider??

This appeared this morning (my LoadShedding Notifier app is froken 'cause of it) and wasn't a problem early last night. but it also seems to be the domain loadshedding.eskom.co.za that is problematic/routed like this

I also have some problem connecting to an unencrypted IMAP/SMTP email (not my choice, client) and that also seems to fail for some reasons, could these two events be related??

It would be nice to get a view on the logs within the Eskom end of this - but I know this is impossible. The thing is this doesn't look like a timeout (which usually points to a MTU issue). Rather it looks like a rejection, like a firewall. Can you send me a PCAP of your connection to this address?

We pick up Eskom's traffic directly via peering with Liquid, so no transit at all - so I imagine this issue is more related to an issue on their end.

If you can update your ticket with the SMTP/IMAP server, we'll see if we can pick up anything.

Okay, IMAP/SMTP issue "fixed" The smtp/imap server names changed for this client... I should've checked those DNS first but... I'll plea the FacePalm moment

Just my 2 cents, but it looks like you are trying to query an API Endpoint, do you perhaps need a token or some sort of auth?

Edit: nevermind, I can't even access loadshedding.eskom.co.za anymore lol, I could yesterday. Guess power isn't the only thing they are limiting access too xD

you don't want to read the JavScript that queries that "endpoint"... you'll weep... no, no authentication needed, the same "endpoint" queried by most APPs I'm aware of

Correct

I'll weep reading any javascript at any time, but it seems to have been corrected now

Mister @websquadza I'm also dying to know if this trial will continue as a commercial product.
So the end of our glorious gigabit evolution is speedily approaching, @websquadza any news out of vumatel of making it a permanent fixture?

Christmas has come early - we've received confirmation that this promo is being extended for another 12 months! So R1499 1 Gbps is here to stay (well for another year at least).

I know I'm greedy, but any news on a 1 Gbps symmetrical connection? :giggle:
