I see the original routing has been restored this morning. :crying:

@websquadza was it just temporary or is the plan to switch over to that?

Upstreams are still making changes. Give this a few days as the PCCW integration isn’t as easy as anticipated.

@websquadza intermittent again. same problem?

Not seeing any issues. Can you provide a ping or preferably an MTR?

No worries. What was the difference between the two besides the obvious different routing? Could really feel the difference in game even though the latencies were similar, so I'm curious.

International a little off this morning @websquadza ? Poor speeds and some loss:

As mentioned above, the integration with larger tier 1s on the upstream is a little rocky. Primarily with the PCCW. For us, PCCW also swap transit with China Telecoms, which means that unless the communities are correctly configured, the traffic has multiple routes (although our CT route only picks up traffic in Asia and not Europe). PCCW also provide transit to a bunch of mutual peers, so there is a risk of them learning specifics that way too (which we saw last week with the route leak). The problem we have is that with changes constantly happening on upstream, we can't make routing decisions to benefit our clients until things stabilise. We're on their case to finalise their changes as soon as possible. We've drained China Telecoms for the time being to assist in this migration. We will be dropping China Telecoms altogether as soon as one of our new transit providers comes online.

For now, with CT dropped, the above traces look a lot better. Please confirm.

@websquadza - losing all traffic on my connection every few mins like the other week.

Also Cloudflare services routing to DBN again.

Do you have an example of the lost traffic? Is it not maybe Cloudflare CPT having a wobbly then taking down their service? Packets lost or DNS query failures?

Cloudflare have withdrawn their 1.1.1.0/24 prefix from their peering in CPT (in fact looks like they've withdrawn 376/379 prefixes - so pretty much turned down their CPT peering). So you'll likely pick it up from one of our other peering points. As soon as they re-advertise in CPT, it will show up. I've forced JHB rather than DBN route selection on this.

Cloudflare is a secondary issue at the moment, but I am losing connectivity.

I hit the MTR while there was still no traffic, and it wasn't getting past my router, then it came back after a few seconds:

Looks like an Ocotel packet loss issue again - not making it to the next hop (hop 2). Your PPPOE has been up for 4 hours+ so, short drops. Can you send us a ticket so we can escalate to Octotel?

Cool, just did, for all the good it'll do. If it's at all under your control, please make sure they don't just send a technician out again just to confirm I "have internet" and the "signal strength is acceptable" without having any bearing on the actual problem.

This kind of intermittency usually points to a backhaul issue rather than last mile. But I think core and maintenance don't really communicate, so maintenance receive a ticket and rush out. Last time it was a node issue if I remember correctly.

Aaaand back to normal. :thumbsup:

Got excited for a moment as I saw that route that gave me that awesome gaming performance for a day - but it's gone now :)
