WebAfrica Capped ADSL

Really surprised to hear so many peeps having issues. My line is flying at full line speed on all protocols barring torrents and nntp.

iTunes app updates....

I think it might be a lot of the people in the South sections that are having hassles. I have shocking speeds on my 20mb line at home (wish I was there to take a Speedtest screenshot). It seems they are having capacity issues.

I am getting around 40kb/s (sometimes faster, other times slower) during the day time. The problem with sorting out the IPC is that it takes quite a long time. The ISP must have the foresight to see it coming and start ordering as it is also then has to go through Telkom's hands for when it will occur (please correct me if I am wrong - my knowledge in this area). I think that is the basic idea.

I'm on business capped, in jhb.

The shaping being applied at this moment is truly pathetic.

Account is performing like a home uncapped account.

Seriously WebAfrica. You are not holding up your end of the bargain.

CW and WA capped accounts are up the pole with shaping currently. I've performed tests and taken screenshots and sent them off to CW support.

Afrihost latency is bad, but I get full linespeed on everything.

My 20mbps VDSL line is basically a 2-3mbps account at present on my CW and WA capped accounts.

Shocking what has become of these IS backbone capped.

Yeah - Web Africa really not coming to the party. This is my 2 pet peeves about companies like this is - when they not offering the service near to what they should then why should we have to pay out for the extra month of billing when you want to cancel and secondly when things are going well and there are happy people on the forum they are very active but when there are problems to address, they are super quiet and aloof.

I raised a trouble ticket to address the ridiculous shaping on certain protocols. I was given the usual bull**** response. "Take screenshot - do tracert to www.webafrica.co.za".

Surely they realise that they can't bull**** everyone with the types of responses they have scripted.

I think this it is criminal to pay for something but not get what you paid for - I know somewhere in the T's & C's it will always say that it is a best effort but it sad to see this happening at Web Africa as they were stellar until now :)

Hi,

So sorry for the issues you're experiencing. Is this issue still ongoing, if it is, please drop me a PM so I can assist.

Does this mean that WA's additional bandwidth - for both Gauteng and the Cape - has been installed ?

THe very nature of support on this is dishonest at best. Spending time doing troubleshooting, when my backup account (VOX) works immediately, to prove to WA that you are shaping. By the time it has been shown that WA is doing what it is doing the rules are relaxed, or the demand changes thus changing the shaping profile.

For e.g. I could not download from steam on a business capped package on Sunday (Yesterday) at anything above 400KBPS. (I tested with the VOX account to make sure it wasn't steam.

Eventually the speed returned, and I was able to use the line at 20mbps.

It is very evident that you are shaping (heavily) on Business Capped accounts. It begs the question why you are charging a premium to limit me from actually being able to use the bandwidth I have paid for.

I am deeply disappointed in the state of affairs at present.

So I've decided I have had enough. And WEB AFRICA seem to insist that even though they do not have capacity to provide the product they are billing me R1400 a month for, I must pay it until the end of July.

Can someone provide any advise?

Haha - the old "I have not actually read what you have posted - but here take this generic copy and paste".

I don't think there is a way - can anyone please advise?

I would take this up with someone senior who can make a decision. Keep escalating it until someone does something. Also post on facebook group so that other people see what is happening

Not sure whether the CPA provides any help

After fighting the whole day. I finally spoke to someone who understood the problem - Ricardo.

However, he can only escalate this to his manager tomorrow and get back to me. Apparently the people who make decisions were there all day, but too busy to make any decisions.

My very first day on webafrica.
Capped account with DL speeds on 4mb line at only 0.2Mbps to London.
Wrong choice in ISP it seems.
