Weight Loss/ Gain thread Dec 2014 - 2015

Awesome stuff! Well done :)

I am also converted for life. If I think back to all the years of being obese and wearing jumbo sized clothes or clothes that didn't fit after xmas - now that part of my life is over.

I cleared our a storeroom at home 2 weekends ago - 2 bakkie loads worth of junk that had accumulated. I drank water like a camel through it all but I finished at 12pm without any food for the day and still full of energy!

Fat power FTW!

Fat power!

Joined the gym last week and Im dropping again. 2.3kg in 2 days to be exact with Banting. I strongly believe that weight loss cannot be achieved without an exercise plan.

I disagree.

This thread is awesome. I was about to skip today, but after reading the last few posts, I'm motivated again. Except the puking bit.

Don't skip.

Not at all...I appreciate your honest and informed feedback. Looking at the figures I am also becoming more and more convinced that they fukked up with their calculations. I do not want to be placed under any misconception re. my weight loss and/or muscle gains.

I am training again tomorrow evening and will sit down with them and work through the figures again. They have a wall in the gym with similar results posted as well as on their FB page. So they are either making a fundamental calculation error, OR they are BS clients into thinking they are achieving miraculous results.

I hope it is an error on their side, but if it is, many bubbles will be burst.

From my understanding, unless you're on the seriously obese side it's extremely difficult to put on muscle while simultaneously losing fat. Building muscle needs calorie surplus, losing fat needs calorie deficit.

@MightyQuin: What is your height, your starting weight 6 weeks ago, most recent weigh in, starting and ending body fat % & muscle mass %?

As I understand to pick up muscle, you need to consume +- 45 calories per KG. I actually think its more, but anyway,
4500 calories per day to pick up lean muscle, but you need a calorie deficit to loose weight, unfortunately the 2 works against each other.

Someone who has never seen the gym or trained in his life will pick up muscle much faster than someone that's been gyming for years. So if this is Quins first time in the gym, and he is klapping it with a proper diet, picking up 10kg muscle in year 1 will theoretically be possible.
I have a friend who does bodybuilding, he goes to the gym 6 times a week and trains for 2 - 3 hours, his diet is 100% and his genetics are out of this world, he struggles to pick up 1 - 2 kg of muscle mass per year.

There are different models for calculating how much lean muscle mass you can expect to gain in a year of muscle building. But most agree that people new to lifting weights will gain muscle faster than those who have been doing it for some time, and even those new to it, who train hard, cannot expect more than 15kg per year. That seems to be the absolute upper limit for gifted newbies who work incredibly hard.

And if you think about it, it makes sense. 5kg is actually quite a lot, I would think. If most people gained 5kg of muscle and no fat, they would look much more ripped.

Week started well :p with my puking adventure, went a little up from there, which I expected once I started eating again. Still a loss of 2.1kg for the week.

O, and for today, I dug into my old clothes closet. Wearing a shirt and a pant that is two sizes smaller than what I normally wear.

Looks like you need to update your goal! You only have 0.2kg to go!

IIRC this is why one needs to gets carbs in every few days , or else leptin levels get depleted and then you do go into starvation mode and the fat loss stops. Speaking under correction...

I'm also losing very slowly now, do you track what you eat? Calories?

Not really, but my calories are not even close to the 2500 pd mark.
But I'm fine with it, I'm still losing weight even if it slow, and I'm not starving myself and I honestly feel fantastic, So guess it could have been worse =P

Yeh, my dad complains to me this morning that he's been standing still for a while... and I told him the same thing: Are you hungry? How do you feel? Losing weight slowly means it will stay off and harder to put back on.

This morning I put on a jean pant which I haven't worn in years. Best motivation I've had since I started this. Actually amazed how good I feel, and knowing the best is yet to come. Standing up was tough, sitting down was almost falling down. My skin problems are slowly going away, and I have a condition which the dermatologist said is not curable.

I might sound like a chick when I say it, but when people start to notice the difference, it just feels fantastic. Self esteem is getting better by the day.

I could not agree more, it's wonderful when people compliment you on how good you look...
Clothes that has been to small for the last 8 years are now to big, my pants are falling of and my belt actually fits :p ...

Health wise my lower back pain is complete gone, I have more energy and zest for life, I'm fixing things around the house I have been to lazy to fix for years now.
And you mentioning skin condition, my skin is looking the healthiest I have ever seen it.
And I don't know if it's my imagination, but it feels like I'm thinking clearer.

People can call it what they want, but LCHF has changed my life for the absolute better.

So I've been losing mostly centermetes and not much weight. This week fell off the bus and had a few beers. Tonight had chips and I feel truly I'll.

You guys have really motivated me, tomorrow will start keeping a diary and cut out all alcohol. As well as go to gym again. Bye bye piggy Lino
